Former Kyler Murray Teammate Warns Jets About Adding Him This Offseason

There has been some early buzz connecting the New York Jets to Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray this offseason.

A former teammate of his delivered a stern warning to the Jets about potentially going down that path.

“I was talking to someone, one of his former teammates, the other day, and he basically warned off the Jets about [him]. I said, ‘You know the Jets might be going after Kyler in a month or two.’ He goes, ‘No, no, no, the Jets don’t want to do that. You don’t want Kyler Murray as your quarterback.’ This is someone who played with Murray,” Cimini revealed on the “Flight Deck” podcast.

“Kyler Murray has attracted a lot of speculation with regard to the Jets. I’d be a little surprised if they went down that road. He has not been a durable player. He has not been a good player, quite frankly,” Cimini added. “So there has always been talk about how he doesn’t love football. So I’d be a little surprised, you know, Aaron Glenn always talks about culture, that one would surprise me.”

In four of the last five seasons, Murray has missed at least three games. In two of the last three seasons, he has missed a total of 21 games.

Some of the Insider Buzz From Earlier in the Offseason

I spoke with NFL information broker Benjamin Allbright on “Boy Green Daily” at the end of the 2025 regular season.

He told me to “keep your eye” on Murray for the Jets. He said the talented Cardinals passer is a “legitimate option” for the green and white. Allbright confirmed that New York would be one of the teams in the mix if he were to become available.

Since that conversation, Allbright has continued to share that take on social media.

On January 14 he responded to a Jets fan asking who the starting quarterback will be in 2026.

“I’ve been whispering that Kyler Murray might be in play there as a bridge quarterback for the better part of a couple months. We’ll see,” Allbright posted.

Cryptic Comments Suggest Murray Will Become Available

Murray, 28, will turn 29 before the start of the 2026 season. The former Texas A&M and Oklahoma product has three years remaining on the $230 million extension he signed.

“There is a deadline because if he’s on the roster on the fifth day of the league year this March, $19.5 million in 2027 becomes fully guaranteed (a year early, essentially),” NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport wrote.

“The most likely scenario for the Cardinals is to release Kyler Murray after the start of the new league year,” NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero explained.

After Mike LaFleur was hired as the next head coach of the Cardinals he did a bunch of media. During one of those conversations, LaFleur provided cryptic comments on the future of Murray in an Arizona uniform.

“Again, I’m not going to answer that question today because we gotta go have all of those conversations. We’ve had some closed door conversations about how we are going to make sure this roster is the best it can be going forward,” LaFleur responded when asked if he sees an avenue for Murray to be the quarterback in 2026 via “The Burns & Gambo Show.”
