There has been uncertainty about the 2025 national champion, the Florida Gators, after they failed to reach the Sweet 16 this season. The Gators’ roster is expected to look much different with players pursuing the NBA Draft and entering the transfer portal. Still, the school received an answer from Alex Condon on Wednesday.
ESPN’s Shams Charania and Jeremy Woo reported that Florida’s second-leading scorer in 2025-26, Alex Condon, will be returning to the school for his senior season.
Condon is the No. 30 prospect in ESPN’s Top 100 for the 2026 draft class. He will be a projected first-round pick in 2027 and rank among the best big men in college basketball next season.
Alex Condon’s Value to Florida
Florida has so far lost Micah Handlogten to the transfer portal and Xavian Lee after finishing his college eligibility in 2025-26. Thomas Haugh and Rueben Chinyelu are expected to pursue their professional basketball careers in the 2026 NBA Draft.
Alex Condon returning for another season will be a sigh of relief for head coach Todd Golden. Condon has improved his play in all three seasons with the Gators.
In 2025-26, Condon was Florida’s second-leading scorer, behind Thomas Haugh. Through 34 games, the 21-year-old averaged 15.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game while shooting 55.6% from the field and 64.9% from the free-throw line.
Condon’s junior season was filled with consistent outings. His best games came in conference play. In a win over Texas on Feb. 25, Condon finished with 23 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 blocks while shooting 10-for-12. Nearly a week later, on March 3 against Mississippi State, Condon had 26 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists while shooting 12-for-19 from the field.
The 6-foot-11, 230-pound big man will fill Thomas Haugh’s role if the projected first-round pick declares for the 2026 NBA Draft.
What Will Florida’s Roster Look Like in 2026-27?
The Gators have already received Boogie Fland‘s commitment for next season after he decided to return for his junior year. Fland led Florida in steals last season (1.7 per game). With Alex Condon (1.4 blocks per game) returning, the Gators also bring back their top shot-blocker for 2026-27.
“I love being a Gator,” Fland told Florida Victorious. ” I didn’t love how everything ended, and I feel like there’s still some unfinished business. With the staff, we’re excited for year two of being a Gator.
The SEC Sixth Man of the Year, Urban Klavzar, also announced his return to the program for next season. Klavzar was one of Florida’s top three-point shooters in 2025-26, shooting 40.6% from behind the arc and adding 9.6 points per game.
“I love the coaching staff, my teammates – just living in Gainesville has probably been one of the best times of my life. It’s really awesome here,” Klavzar told Florida Victorious. “It was a tough loss in the second round as well, and I really want to run it back with my teammates and try to win a championship again. In general, I just love playing here.”
Kentucky transfer Denzel Aberdeen is set to return to Florida after spending one season with the Wildcats. Aberdeen served as a bench player for the Gators in their national championship run in 2024-25 before seeking a larger role with Kentucky last season. He is still waiting for an answer on his fifth season of college eligibility.
Brothers Isaiah Brown and AJ Brown have announced their return to the program, as well as Alex Lloyd and Alex Kovatchev.
