It looks like former Baltimore Ravens quarterbacks coach Tee Martin is landing on his feet and landing somewhere he could chart another path back to the NFL thanks to 1 of his former bosses.
“Sources: Former Ravens QBs coach Tee Martin is being hired by Lane Kiffin as an offensive analyst at LSU,” NFL insider Jordan Schultz wrote on his official X account on Wednesday morning. “Martin, who has been in Baltimore since 2021, now returns to the college ranks and reunites with Kiffin, who hired him at USC back in 2012.”
Martin coached 7 seasons at USC — the first 2 under Kiffin — from 2012 to 2018, ending his time there as offensive coordinator.
The change that came with head coach John Harbaugh being fired after 18 seasons and a new head coach in Jesse Minter — and a defensive-minded 1 at that — included Martin losing his job on February 4. Martin was a close personal confidante of 2-time NFL MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson.
“Sources: The Ravens will not retain QBs coach Tee Martin under the new coaching staff,” Schultz wrote on X. “A massive change as the well-respected Martin has been in Baltimore since 2021 — and is one of the people closest to Lamar Jackson within the organization.”
Minter eventually hired former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle for the same position on the Ravens. However, it’s a promotion for Doyle as head coach Ben Johnson calls plays for the Bears.
Martin Best Known for BCS Title, ‘The Brady 6’
Martin first gained fame as the quarterback for the University of Tennessee, where he took over as the starter for Peyton Manning after he was taken No. 1 overall in the 1998 NFL draft and led the Volunteers to a national championship in his first season — also the first season of the BCS era.
Martin started one more season for Tennessee and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fifth round (No. 163 overall) of the 2000 NFL draft.
Unfortunately for Martin, his pro career would end up being defined as being part of “The Brady 6” — 1 of the 6 quarterbacks taken before Tom Brady in the sixth round (No. 199 overall) in 2000.
Martin played 7 seasons of professional football — 4 in the NFL for the Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles and Oakland Raiders along with one season in NFL Europe for the Rhein Fire and 2 seasons for the Winnipeg Bombers in the Canadian Football League.
Martin’s Long and Winding Road as Assistant Coach
After his career ended in the CFL following the 2005 season, Martin went directly into coaching in 2006 at Morehouse, then spent 2 years coaching high school football before making his way back to college football.
Martin spent over a decade as an assistant at New Mexico, Kentucky, USC and Tennessee before being hired as the Ravens’ wide receivers coach. In Baltimore, he spent 2 seasons coaching the wide receivers before taking over the quarterbacks.
Martin’s oldest son, wide receiver Amari Rodgers, played 3 seasons in the NFL. His youngest son, Kade Martin, plays quarterback for Middle Tennessee State.
Most of the response to Martin losing his job was along the lines of gratitude and worry about how it might impact Jackson, who won his 2nd NFL MVP with Martin as his quarterbacks coach in 2023 but struggled in 2025.
“This could really shake Lamar’s rhythm next season,” Curionic wrote on its official X account. “Losing a trusted voice like that rarely ends well for a QB.”
