Father-Son Duo to Announce Steelers Draft Pick

With the NFL Draft coming to Pittsburgh for the first time in less than a week, the Pittsburgh Steelers are pulling out all the stops to make sure the celebration is a special one. While the team will be hard at work utilizing what is set to be 12 draft picks in total at their disposal, they have revealed who will be announcing some of those picks.

According to ESPN senior insider Adam Schefter, the Steelers are going to have a father-son duo announce a couple of their picks. That father-son duo is none other than former edge-rusher Joey Porter Sr. and starting cornerback Joey Porter Jr.

The Steelers have decided that the Porters will announce one of the team’s three third-round draft picks together. It remains to be seen which specific pick the duo will announce.

Other notable Steelers legends, such as Jerome Bettis and John Stallworth, will be announcing draft picks in the later rounds, too. It makes clear sense that the organization is going above and beyond to celebrate the draft coming to the Steel City. One of the most storied franchises in the history of sports, the Steelers will look to perform well as they usher in somewhat of a new era of football.

When the Steelers drafted Porter Jr. in 2023, there was an extra amount of joy in the building. He was getting the chance to follow what his dad did. Joey Porter Sr. spent the first eight seasons of his career with Pittsburgh after being drafted out of Colorado State in 1999. He would go on to make three Pro Bowls, earn three All-Pro nods, and help the team take home the Super Bowl in 2005. Not to mention the fact that he recorded 60 sacks, 75 tackles for loss, and 18 forced fumbles with the team.

Porter Jr. is getting ready to enter his fourth season with the club, but it will be his first season playing for McCarthy. While his dad got the opportunity to play for two great head coaches in Bill Cowher and Mike Tomlin, he is now getting the chance to do the same, as McCarthy is replacing Tomlin.

Through his first three NFL seasons, Porter has proven to be a real asset to the secondary in Pittsburgh. The 25-year-old has recorded 31 passes defended, over 160 career tackles, and three interceptions. In two of his first three seasons, he has allowed a completion percentage of below 50%. An extension could very well be on the horizon for the former Nittany Lion if the Steelers are smart.
