Falcons-Chiefs Trade Prediction Lands Kyle Pitts in Kansas City as Travis Kelce’s Successor

It’s officially Draft Day in the National Football League. The Atlanta Falcons do not hold a first-round draft pick, but the rumors surrounding Kyle Pitts as a trade candidate might be starting to gain form.

Adam Schefter wrote (on April 21): “Watch to see if the Falcons can find a trade partner for Kyle Pitts, who they’re open to dealing.”

If the Falcons are open to trading Kyle Pitts, the Kansas City Chiefs could be a possible destination, but it would likely cost their No. 9 overall draft pick.

Does Kyle Pitts to the Chiefs Make Sense?

The Kansas City Chiefs may be looking for a Kyle Pitts successor, and SI.com’s Mark-Morales Smith echoes that sentiment when he listed the Chiefs as a top landing spot for Kyle Pitts:

“It’s time that the Chiefs start to look into finding Travis Kelce’s successor. There is a strong chance that this is his last professional season. He’ll be turning 37 years old in October and has seen his production steadily decline as he mulls over his retirement each offseason. While he’s a player who is nearly impossible to truly replace, Pitts is athletic enough to fill the role well enough that the Chiefs could still run the same offense if they brought him in to be the heir to Kelce’s throne. Kansas City sitting there with two first-round picks, including the 29th overall pick, make this a fairly simple trade to envision.”

It should be a hectic day across the NFL, and while the Falcons don’t have a first-round pick, they still could be a focal point of the first day in the draft if the Kyle Pitts rumors persist.

Kyle Pitts’ Tenure as a Falcons Tight End

Kyle Pitts is entering year six of his NFL career, and as Smith mentions, it’s time to find a Travis Kelce replacement in Kansas City. Kelce is aging, and while he’s still a phenomenal player, it’s fair to question how much longer he has in a Chiefs uniform.

He just signed the franchise tag in Atlanta for $15 million, but his trade rumors stem from the Falcons being under a new regime, and several other contending teams potentially wanting his services.

The former fourth overall draft pick in 2021 understands the magnitude of this day.

Kyle Pitts quietly had one of the best seasons for a tight end in 2025. He hauled in 88 catches for 928 yards and five touchdown receptions.

He’s started 72 of his 78 games played in his NFL career. So he’s durable and has been on the field for most of that time.

In his 78 total games, Pitts has 284 career receptions with 3579 total receiving yards and 15 total touchdowns.

In each season of his career, Kyle Pitts has increased his touchdown total (1 in 2021, 2 in 2022, 3 in 2023, 4 in 2024, etc).
