EXCLUSIVE: Knicks Forward Josh Hart Reveals What Fuels His Relentless Energy

The play usually happens in the middle of chaos — the kind of possession that demands energy, instinct and effort.

A missed shot ricochets off the rim. Bodies collide in the paint. The ball squirts loose toward the sideline.

And almost every time, one player is already sprinting toward it before anyone else realizes what’s happening.

Josh Hart.

The New York Knicks forward dives across the hardwood, sometimes sliding halfway across Madison Square Garden’s floor. He pops back up just as quickly, often pumping his fists or barking instructions to teammates as the possession continues.

Those moments — the hustle plays, the energy bursts, the relentless movement — rarely make highlight reels.

But they’re woven into the fabric of the Knicks’ identity — the same grit that defines New York City.

And they start long before tipoff.

“For me, especially in the season, everything is very strict for me in terms of how I approach my game, workouts, what I put in my body, nutrition,” Hart told Heavy Sports. “And I think C4 embodies that same mentality. So for me, it was kind of a no-brainer to partner with them.”

The partnership with C4 Energy, the official energy drink of the Knicks, fits neatly with Hart’s reputation as one of the NBA’s most relentless players.

But the energy fans see during games, Hart insists, is carefully built.

The Connective Engine Behind the Knicks

The Knicks have star power in Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, whose combined five All-NBA selections and nine All-Star appearances anchor the offense. On the perimeter, OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges give New York one of the NBA’s most disruptive defensive wing pairings.

What Hart provides is the connective energy that ties those pieces together — the constant movement, communication and effort that rarely show up in box scores but often define winning teams.

Brunson orchestrates the offense. Towns stretches defenses with his scoring and shooting. Anunoby and Bridges pressure opponents on the perimeter.

Hart moves between all of them.

Rebounding. Rotating. Talking. Sprinting.

Sometimes all in the same possession.

“You know, bringing that energy is what I do,” Hart said. “But at times it’s tiring and exhausting. So making sure I’m back to 100% or as close as I can be in games is vital.”

Which is why preparation matters so much.

Inside Josh Hart’s Game-Day Routine

Hart’s routine on game days is almost mechanical.

It begins hours before most fans even think about basketball.

The Knicks typically hold shootaround at 10 a.m., which means Hart is already at the facility well before that.

“Game days are pretty regimented,” Hart told Heavy Sports. “We have a shootaround at 10, so I get to the facility at nine, do treatment, shootaround at 10, shoot after.”

After the morning session, the routine shifts into recovery mode.

Lunch comes shortly after noon. Then a nap — a crucial reset before the intensity of the night.

“Lunch at about 12:30, nap from one to 2:30,” Hart said. “Wake up, kind of get ready for the game.”

Before heading back to Madison Square Garden, Hart squeezes in family time.

“Hang out with the kids for about an hour, hour and a half,” he said.

By late afternoon, he’s back at the arena preparing for tipoff.

Treatment. Stretching. Warmup shooting.

Then the final ritual in the locker room.

“Pregame, I always kind of snack on some stuff in the locker room,” Hart said. “Have a little bit of candy, have some popcorn. After the team meeting, I crack open the C4 and I’m ready to go.”

Then the energy takes over.

Growing Into a Leadership Role

While Hart’s effort has always defined his game, his voice inside the Knicks locker room has grown louder over the past few seasons.

He describes his leadership style as evolving.

“I’ve always kind of been more of a lead-by-example kind of guy,” Hart told Heavy Sports. “But the last couple of years, I’ve been more confident being vocal.”

The Knicks’ roster includes multiple star players and strong personalities, which means communication becomes critical during the grind of an NBA season.

Hart sees part of his job as reading the emotional temperature of the team.

“For me, I’m trying to be the guy that connects everyone,” he said. “Mentally seeing where guys are. If they need a play call, if they need a touch, if they need a shot.”

Sometimes leadership means offering encouragement.

Other times, it means simply making sure teammates stay focused.

“There’s a lot of ups and downs in a season,” Hart said. “So just continuing to build those relationships off the court helps keep guys locked in.”

The Madison Square Garden Effect

Hart admits the stakes of playing in New York took some adjustment.

Madison Square Garden has a way of doing that.

Before arriving with the Knicks, postseason basketball was largely unfamiliar territory.

“I didn’t make the playoffs until New York,” Hart told Heavy Sports. “So the games were a little less meaningful.”

That changed quickly once he experienced Madison Square Garden during a playoff run.

“In the Garden, the energy is unreal,” Hart said. “New York fans — every game they come in and show support.”

Last season’s run to the Eastern Conference Finals raised expectations across the franchise.

“We’re looking to make runs in the playoffs,” Hart said.

The deeper the run, the longer the season becomes.

“You’re not just preparing for 82 games,” Hart said. “You’re preparing for potentially 95 to 100 games.”

That’s why Hart remains obsessive about recovery, diet and preparation.

Finding Balance Off the Court

For all the structure surrounding his basketball life, Hart says the most important moments of his day happen away from the court.

He and his wife are raising twins, and balancing fatherhood with the demands of the NBA requires careful attention.

“Game days, I might only see them for 30 minutes in the morning and an hour in the afternoon,” Hart told Heavy Sports.

So when opportunities arise — off days, breaks between road trips — Hart tries to disconnect from basketball.

“On off days or when I come back from road trips, I want to make sure I’m present,” he said.

Because in a season filled with travel, film sessions and back-to-back games, time moves quickly.

Birthday Treat for Knicks Fans

Hart will celebrate his 31st birthday on Friday, March 6.

But like many NBA birthdays, it will happen on the road.

The Knicks are scheduled to face the Denver Nuggets that night, opening a five-game road trip.

“My birthday wish is that we get a win,” Hart told Heavy Sports.

C4 Energy is marking the occasion with a special promotion dubbed “C3 Day,” a nod to Hart’s No. 3 jersey.

On March 6, fans can receive $3 off any online beverage purchase at cellucor.com using the code HART.

Hart even has a couple of recommendations for first-time drinkers.

Mango Fuego and Cereal Killer,” he said.

The promotion reflects the identity that has followed Hart throughout his career — the player who never seems to run out of energy.

And if the Knicks’ postseason ambitions materialize again this spring, they will likely depend on that energy continuing to ripple through the roster.

Because on a team filled with stars, defenders and scorers, Hart remains the heart of it all — the player who quietly connects everything.
