Ex-Steelers CB Suspended Three Games: Report

While he is no longer with the Pittsburgh Steelers, veteran cornerback Beanie Bishop is in the news this week for the wrong reason. According to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, Bishop has been suspended by the NFL for three games. There has been no reason given by the league yet for why he was suspended.

Beanie Bishop Provided Key Depth for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024

Beanie Bishop Jr.

GettyBeanie Bishop was an All-American at West Virginia in 2023.

The 26-year-old was first given an opportunity with the Steelers back in 2024. After bouncing around between three colleges, the Kentucky native made the move to the next level and went to play for the Steelers, who gave him an opportunity as an undrafted rookie. Former Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin trusted him to start six of the team’s 17 regular-season games during the 2024 season.

Not only did he provide solid depth, but he more than held his own as a starter. He recorded seven pass deflections and four interceptions, including two off of former Jets starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who is coming off his own solid season with the Steelers in 2025. Bishop also provided a nice spark on blitzes as he recorded a 0.5 sack, two tackles for loss, a quarterback hit, and a fumble recovery.

While he was far from an All-Pro defender, which is partially why he didn’t play in another game for the Steelers after that season, he was a notable defensive back who could be trusted in the opportunities that he was given. Now with the New Orleans Saints on a reserve/futures contract, Bishop will look to make an impact when he returns from suspension.

The Steelers Have Improved Their Defensive Back Room Since Bishop

Jalen Ramsey

Steelers safety Jalen Ramsey will be entering his 11th season in the NFL this upcoming year.

Since Bishop was released by the Steelers in November of last season, the organization has steadily improved its defensive back group. Veteran cornerback Joey Porter Jr. and future Hall of Fame defensive back Jalen Ramsey have been with the team since Bishop was released. But they are a big reason for the Steelers’ success in causing turnovers last season. Pittsburgh caused the fourth-most turnovers in the NFL in 2025 (27).

Pittsburgh has since added plenty of talent to the defensive backs room. Steelers GM Omar Khan re-signed Asante Samuel Jr. this offseason after he made an impact as a late-season addition in 2025. Among Khan’s other notable free-agent signings this offseason were former Tampa Bay Buccaneers starting cornerback Jamel Dean and former Chicago Bears safety Jaquan Brisker.

Not only has Pittsburgh made a concerted effort to address the backend of its defense this offseason so far, but it also holds seven draft picks inside the first four rounds of the upcoming NFL Draft. Even though the hiring of new head coach Mike McCarthy signifies that the organization is looking to take a step forward on offense, defense is still a top priority. Opposing quarterbacks may want to look out if they find the Steelers on their team’s 2026 schedule.
