Former Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford almost took the Los Angeles Rams to the big game again, but on Sunday, January 26, the team fell in a close game to the Seattle Seahawks, with a 31-27 final score. Now, Matthew’s wife, Kelly Stafford, is commenting about some of the NFL’s decisions surrounding that game.
Stafford and the Rams came close to a victory, but they weren’t quite accurate enough to beat Sam Darnold and the Seahawks, and now, Seattle is advancing to the big game as the NFC champions.
“I can’t generalize six months of my life 10 minutes after a loss,” Stafford said after the game, when asked about retirement. “So I appreciate the guys in this locker room a whole hell of a lot. Everybody that helped me and helped our team be the success that we were this year. And that’s all I’ll answer for you.”
When asked whether Stafford was planning to come back next season, Rams head coach Sean McVay answered, “You’ll have to ask him.”
“We’ve been totally present,” McVay added, talking to reporters. “I know that if he wants to, he’s still playing at a pretty damn good clip. I mean, he’s the MVP of the league and if he’s not… I got respect for everybody else, but this guy played at a level that’s just different.”
Matthew Stafford’s Wife Kelly Stafford Calls Out NFL
Ahead of the game, Kelly talked about the NFL’s process for getting tickets to the championship and playoff games. While ticket prices are very expensive, what’s even worse is the complicated process of getting tickets.
Kelly called it a “crazy” process to get tickets, even for someone who’s the wife of the star quarterback on the team.
“Honestly though … this whole you have to download the other teams app to get your tickets to the game is getting a little absurd,” she stated on her Instagram story on Tuesday, January 20.
But, Kelly Stafford and the couple’s children made it to the game to support Matthew. Even though he didn’t win, Kelly calls him their “MVD” as an endearing term, and he’s still a favorite in the running to get “MVP” this year.
Los Angeles Rams Talk Loss to Seattle Seahawks
After the game, McVay admitted that he was surprised the team lost. He expected Stafford and the team to pull off the win.
“I felt like we were going to be the team on that podium,” McVay said. “And we weren’t. And you give Seattle the credit, but I love this group. And I’m never really short on words, and I am right now, so it’s tough.”
Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua said that Stafford wasn’t the problem in the loss. Instead, he praised the former Detroit Lions signal-caller.
“He always does a great job in being able to make plays for us,” Nacua. “I think in the moments that we needed, he was able to read the defense and put the ball where he needed to.”
Nacua led the Rams with nine catches for 165 yards and a touchdown in the game.
