Ex-Bills 3,686-Yard WR Reportedly Signs With Cowboys After NFL Draft

The 2026 NFL Draft offered teams a valuable opportunity to add youth in areas where they needed it. However, teams also had the chance to overlook key players, which could lead them to explore other options, such as signing certain free agents. Notably, one former Buffalo Bills player signed a contract after the draft.

Former Bills WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling is Heading to The Cowboys

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported on Monday that the Dallas Cowboys are signing wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to a one-year contract.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling has been in the NFL for eight seasons, starting his career with the Green Bay Packers, where he appeared in 58 games. He then moved on to the Kansas City Chiefs for two seasons, where he helped them win two Super Bowls in 2022 and 2023. In 2024, he took the next step in his journey by joining the Bills.

The 31-year-old receiver didn’t make much of an impact in Buffalo, appearing in just six games and recording two receptions for 26 yards. The Bills parted ways with Valdes-Scantling after six games, and he later signed with the New Orleans Saints for the remainder of the 2024 season. He then played for the San Francisco 49ers and the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025.

Although Valdes-Scantling is nearing the end of his career, he has still put together an impressive resume, boasting 3,686 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns over 116 games.

The Cowboys are likely bringing in Valdes-Scantling as a camp body to see what he can bring to the table. If he performs well, Dallas could have stumbled into a good deal; if not, then the Cowboys can cut ties without giving up anything.

Bills Added a Few Receivers This Offseason Who Could Make a Splash

Although the Bills didn’t have Valdes-Scantling for long, he was just another addition to the lengthy list of receivers they’ve brought in over the past few years to support quarterback Josh Allen and bolster the offense.

The Bills made a significant move in the offseason by trading for wide receiver DJ Moore from the Chicago Bears. Moore is expected to bolster Buffalo’s offense in a way similar to former wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who played for four seasons before being traded to the Houston Texans in 2024.

Moore wasn’t the only notable receiver the Bills acquired this offseason; they also selected UConn’s Skyler Bell in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft. The Bills’ general manager, Brandon Beane, has high hopes for the young receiver.

“I thought the guy was a baller when I watched him on tape,” Beane said on Saturday, via Bills reporter Sal Capaccio. “Just get the ball in his hands……can play inside, can play outside…..we were excited, to say the least, that he was still available at that point of the draft.”

It might take Bell a season or two to develop, but he will have the opportunity to learn from Moore, which could be an incredible chance for the young player to figure out how to excel in the NFL.
