Every NBA Record And Milestone Jayson Tatum Broke For The Celtics In Game 1

Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics finished Game 1 of the team’s first-round playoff series against the Philadelphia 76ers with 25 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists, setting multiple records and hitting several historic milestones in a dominant victory.

Tatum is just a month into his return from a brutal Achilles injury suffered in the 2025 Playoffs, but in his first postseason game since, the Celtics’ star had a historic Game 1 against the 76ers.

Along with Tatum, his running-mate, Jaylen Brown, also hit a few historic milestones, but as has been the case in the past, it was the freshly returning star leading the way for Boston in the opening game of this playoff run.

Firstly, Tatum passed Kobe Bryant on the NBA’s all-time playoff three-pointers made list. He hit just one in the game, but is now 11th on the list.

With his stat line, Tatum is now top-five in most 25/10/5 playoff games in league history, and his game with at least 25 points is now tied with Nikola Jokic and Russell Westbrook in games with that many points.

Tatum is now one of just five players in Eastern Conference playoff history in games with at least 25 points, as only Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Dwyane Wade, and LeBron James have more.

With his Game 1 performance, the Celtics star also became the youngest player in NBA history to record at least 2,500 playoff points and 1,000 playoff rebounds. Since entering the league in 2017, Tatum now leads the NBA in playoff points and wins.

“Not too long ago I wasn’t sure if I was going to play this season,” Tatum said postgame. “Let alone play in the playoffs. Today was probably the most excited, relaxed and grateful about my 9 years in the playoffs.”

Celtics vs 76ers Playoff Series

The Celtics took Game 1 with a 123-91 win, their biggest margin of victory in a playoff opener in franchise history.

Along with Tatum’s 27, 11, and seven, Brown finished with 26 points, four rebounds, and three assists on over 50% shooting. He is now 10th among active players in playoff points. Tatum and Brown are now first in Celtics history for the most playoff games with at least 25 points by a duo.

While it was those two leading the way, Boston had four other players score in double-digits: Sam Hauser (12), Neemias Queta (13), Derrick White (10), and Payton Pritchard (12) all added to the team’s 123-point total.

The Celtics got off to an early lead and didn’t look back. Fans at the TD Garden could be heard chanting ‘We want Boston!’ near the end of the game as a troll to 76ers fans who chanted the same thing after their Play-In Tournament win over the Orlando Magic.

Philadelphia had 21 points from Tyrese Maxey and 13 from Paul George, but outside of those two, it was an underwhelming performance for a team that is still missing Joel Embiid.

Boston was the favorite heading into the series, and after Game 1, it remains that way. Tatum had a historic game after just over a month since returning from his Achilles injury, and the Celtics once again look like title contenders.

As a reminder, the Sixers haven’t beaten the Celtics in the postseason in more than four decades.

Game 2 of the Boston Celtics vs Philadelphia 76ers first-round playoff series is set for Tuesday, April 21, at 7 pm EST.
