ANTIOCH — Eight people were injured Thursday in Antioch when an SUV driver ran a red light and hit a Tri Delta Transit bus, according to police.

The crash happened around 12:30 p.m. where the eastbound Highway 4 off-ramp to Laurel Road meets Laurel Road, the Antioch Police Department said in a news release.
Officers determined that the driver of the SUV went through the intersection against a red traffic light and collided with the rear portion of the bus, according to police.
Seven bus passengers had complaints of pain and were taken to hospitals, police said. The SUV driver was also taken to a hospital with an injury that was not considered life-threatening.
Drugs, alcohol and excessive speed did not play a role in the crash, according to police.
Last Friday, 16 people were injured in Oakland when a speeding car crashed into another car and an AC Transit bus. Ten were taken to hospitals, including the drivers of all three vehicles. Oakland police said everyone was expected to survive.
