Eastbound I-70 closed in Colorado mountains after multiple crashes

Eastbound Interstate 70 and Loveland Pass are closed because of multiple crashes near Eisenhower Tunnel and adverse road conditions amid a winter storm, state officials said.

Eastbound I-70 is closed at Silverthorne and eastbound U.S. 6 over Loveland Pass is closed between Montezuma Road and I-70, Colorado Department of Transportation officials said at 6 p.m.

“Motorists should expect long delays and consider alternate routes,” CDOT officials wrote in an alert.

A winter storm is expected to drop up to 8 inches of snow in the mountains tonight and early Saturday morning, according to a winter weather advisory from the National Weather Service.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
