Officers were dispatched to the school around 8 a.m. after administrators received information that the student was possibly in possession of a loaded handgun and was going to bring it onto campus, the Redwood City Police Department said in a news release.

Administrators were scheduled to meet with the teen and his mother around 9 a.m. to discuss attendance issues.

The student refused to let officers search him for weapons and tried to leave the room, according to police. During a struggle with officers, he told them he had a gun on him.

A loaded Glock 27 and a second loaded magazine were found on the teen, police said, adding that officers also searched his home and found additional ammunition.

Officers suffered minor injuries in the struggle with the student, according to police.

The teen was booked into the San Mateo County Youth Services Center on multiple felony charges.
