Eagles’ Landon Dickerson Makes Final Retirement Decision

After mulling retirement, guard Landon Dickerson will return to the Philadelphia Eagles for the 2026 NFL season.

Dickerson made his intentions to come back for the Eagles clear on social media Wednesday night. The Philadelphia guard posted two pictures of himself in an Eagles uniform on Instagram.

In the first photo, Dickerson is running out onto the field during pre-game announcements. The guard included two eagle emojis as a caption to the photos.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport posted screenshots of Dickerson’s social media post on his X account.

Dickerson is only 27 years old and has been in the league for just five years. But the guard was reportedly considering retirement this offseason after dealing with multiple injuries during 2025.

Last season, Dickerson battled a back and ankle injuries to play in 15 games. He also underwent knee surgery during 2025 training camp.

Over his NFL career, Dickerson has started 77 of his 78 games. He has started at least 15 contests each of the past four years for the Eagles.

Dickerson earned Pro Bowl honors in three of those campaigns from 2022-24.

Guard Landon Dickerson Returning for Eagles

Dickerson coming back for the Eagles could be an underrated factor for the team. Philadelphia had already lost former offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland this offseason.

With that in mind, this summer wasn’t the best time for Philadelphia to need to replace a Pro Bowl-caliber offensive lineman.

The Eagles very nearly had to replace two of them. In addition to Dickerson, right tackle Lane Johnson considered retiring this offseason. But like Dickerson, Johnson will also be back.

Similar to Dickerson, Johnson went through injuries in 2025. Johnson missed the final seven games of the season because of ailments.

But if both linemen are healthy, the Eagles have one of the best offensive fronts on paper in the league.

Before Wednesday, Dickerson was the last question mark on the unit for Philadelphia. On top of Johnson, starting left tackle Jordan Mailata, center Cam Jurgens and right guard Tyler Steen will return for the Eagles in 2026.

Dickerson wasn’t a Pro Bowler last year, but again, injuries plagued his season. He had been a Pro Bowler three consecutive seasons before 2025.

Dickerson’s Injury Past

Although he’s only 27, Dickerson considering retirement was understandable considering his long injury history.

Back in college, Dickerson tore both of his ACLs. His ankle issues also started during his collegiate career. Then last year, he added knee and back problems to his laundry list of ailments.

But Dickerson will return to try and help the Eagles win their third straight division title. The Eagles have captured the NFC East crown in three of the past four seasons, and made two Super Bowl trips during that stretch.

Dickerson’s return also prevents the guard from leaving money on the table. He is currently on a 4-year, $84 million contract that doesn’t expire after the 2028 season.

In 2026, Dickerson will be playing for a different offensive line coach for the first time in his NFL career. The Eagles hired Chris Kuper to replace Stoutland, who had been in Philadelphia for 13 seasons.
