Eagles Interviewing Former Giants Head Coach For Their OC Role

Following a disappointing exit from the 2025 NFL Playoffs, the Philadelphia Eagles are in a re-tooling offseason as they look to re-establish the dominance they showed in years prior. Step one of that re-tooling is hiring a new offensive coordinator to replace Kevin Patullo.

That process has already gotten underway, and on Tuesday, Jan. 20, the Eagles are set to interview the embattled former head coach of the New York Giants, Brian Daboll.

Though Daboll’s three and a half seasons with the Giants ended unceremoniously, he does have a long track record of relative success as an NFL offensive coordinator. His most recent OC role came just before his tenure with the Giants began, as the offensive play caller for the Buffalo Bills from 2018-2021.

You may remember that those years were pretty transformative for the Bills. In 2018, Josh Allen played his rookie season alongside Brian Daboll. He wasn’t great.

But four years under Daboll’s instruction proved to be exactly what Allen needed, as he became an MVP caliber QB by year three in the league.

This experience would be most invaluable for a team like the Eagles, whose offense struggled mightily this season. But that experience may also be the reason Daboll finds a gig elsewhere.

Daboll Also Being Courted By The Buffalo Bills

If Philly’s interview with Daboll on Tuesday goes well, they may have to make a snap decision to pull the trigger on an offer sooner than later. Daboll has already been heavily connected to the Bills head coach role because of his experience with Allen and the franchise.

And what Buffalo would likely be offering him is that head coach role; even if Daboll likes the Eagles pieces better, it’d be hard to spurn an HC role for an OC role.

There are a couple of points the Eagles should be hammering home in the interview if they are serious about bringing Daboll aboard. First and foremost, they need to allow Daboll to install an entirely new system, one that he believes works and has experience with. The Eagles offense was anemic for a large portion of the 2025 season, and with the weapons they have, that just cannot happen.

Point number two should be about those weapons. Sure, A.J. Brown remains the most disgruntled man in the NFL, but outside of him, Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith, and Dallas Goedert as about as good of a combination as you’ll find in the league.

Daboll also worked with Jalen Hurts in 2017 when he was Alabama’s offensive coordinator for one season.

Daboll’s NFC East Experience Would Help Both Sides

Daboll spent the last four seasons working with the Giants to game plan against these Eagles, as well as the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Commanders. That experience is something that he could absolutely use to his advantage six times a season.

He was certainly also watching the Eagles offense struggle all season. I’d be shocked if a great offensive mind like that didn’t have some sort of solution to their problems going through his head.
