Eagles Face Harsh Criticism After Losing Another Top OC Candidate

The Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator search took another hit on Saturday. 

As ESPN noted, NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported that Bobby Slowik has accepted the Miami Dolphins’ offensive coordinator position instead of Philadelphia’s open role. 

Slowik, who interviewed with the Eagles earlier in the hiring cycle, will remain in Miami as the Dolphins’ play-calling OC under new head coach Jeff Hafley. 

Garafolo summed it up succinctly on social media: “Eagles candidate lands with the Dolphins.”

For Philadelphia, it marks yet another instance of a high-profile offensive candidate choosing a different path. 

Earlier this week, other top candidates, such as Mike McDaniel and Brian Daboll, also passed on Philly’s OC opening. 

Another rejection has sparked growing criticism around the league about why one of the NFL’s most talented offenses continues to struggle to land its preferred coordinator targets. 

Why Are Candidates Passing on the Eagles?

From the outside, the Eagles offer everything an offensive coach should want. 

They have elite skill talent, a strong offensive line when healthy, and a recent track record of coordinators parlaying success in Philadelphia into head-coaching opportunities.

That’s why Slowik’s decision raised eyebrows.

“It’s not shocking,” one league observer noted, given his existing role in Miami, “but it’s becoming a pattern for Philly.”

The Eagles are now searching for their sixth offensive coordinator in seven seasons. 

Much of that turnover has come from coordinators leaving for head-coaching jobs, but the lack of long-term stability has become a growing concern.

Some around the league have described the search as going “off the rails.” 

There are concerns that Philly could be forced to settle for “mid” or “uninspiring options.” 

Former FOX Sports host Emmanuel Acho didn’t mince words either: 

He suggested the Eagles need to “find a way” to land a proven offensive leader rather than cycling through short-term fixes. 

Where the Eagles’ OC Search Goes From Here

Philadelphia still has candidates it could turn to who have already interviewed for the position, including Mike Kafka, Declan Doyle, and Jim Bob Cooter. 

None of those options really jumps off the page.

The Eagles’ most recent interview took place Friday, when they met with Matt Nagy for the position. 

Nagy, along with Joe Brady and Josh Grizzard, have been names that continue to surface. 

As of today, Brian Daboll’s name has also been floated back into the picture as well.  

He apparently still remains a possibility, despite reports indicating he would accept the Tennessee Titans’ offensive coordinator job if he does not land the Buffalo Bills’ head coaching position. 

Acho publicly labeled Daboll and Brady as the most logical next targets. 

He called Brady his “dark horse” option given his success in Buffalo.

At this point, the process has dragged on much longer than expected. 

There is still no clear direction or clarity on where the Eagles offensive coordinator search is headed.
