Driver dead in East Bay DUI crash

OAKLEY — A DUI crash Monday night killed a driver in rural East Contra Costa County, police said.

San Jose driver died due to injuries from February collision

Victor Alfonso, 31, of Oakley, died at Sutter Delta Hospital after being rushed there in an ambulance following the the wreck, according to a statement from the City of Oakley.

Police said Contra Costa County Fire Protection crews came across the crash about 12:30 a.m. on southbound Bethel Island Road and East Cypress Road. According to police, Alfonso was speeding, lost control of the vehicle and went up on the raised center median.

The car then hit a light pole on the driver’s side while sliding sideways across the center median.

Police said they discovered evidence that Alfonso had been drinking.

Fire crews cut Alfonso free from the wreckage and began working on him at the scene before putting him in an ambulance.
