FREMONT — One person died and another suffered undisclosed injuries early Tuesday in a fiery crash on a major avenue, police said.

The crash happened about 12:30 a.m. in the area of Thornton Avenue and Fremont Boulevard
Police asked people to avoid the area of Fremont Boulevard between Thornton Avenue and Peralta Boulevard because of the crash. That stretch of boulevard remained closed through 7 a.m. and was expected to remain that way through much of the morning.
Police indicated the vehicle slammed into a tree.
