Dolphins Get Blunt Message on Jauan Jennings After Vikings Visit

The Miami Dolphins came away with three wide receivers after the 2026 NFL Draft. However, could Miami look at the veteran free agent market to potentially add another target for new QB Malik Willis?

There are plenty of intriguing names available still in free agency, and one of them is San Francisco 49ers free agent Jauan Jennings. As a result, CBS Sports’ Tyler Sullivan believes that Jennings would be an ideal player for the Dolphins.

“I think that Jauan Jennings could be a really interesting fit for them, first of all, because he’s a wide receiver, and the Dolphins really don’t have a lot in that position group at the moment,” Sullivan said during a May 4 appearance on CBS Sports HQ.

“Obviously, they went into the NFL Draft on Day 2 and used the third round to address that position with Caleb Douglas and Chris Bell. Chris Bell is coming off a torn ACL, though, so there are question marks at that wide receiver spot for the Miami Dolphins. Malik Washington is the known veteran coming back from a year ago. Jennings is the only one who’s sub-30.

“He is still not young, but younger in terms of the wide receivers currently on the market. And we have seen him really take on a substantial workload for the San Francisco 49ers when they’ve been dealing with injuries at the receiver position, and overall, he has played extremely well.”

Dolphins Potential Target Visited Vikings Already

Last season with the 49ers, Jennings posted a 68.3 overall PFF grade, ranking 48th among 81 qualifying wide receivers. His 70.6 receiving grade checked in at No. 42 on that same list.

Jennings finished with 55 catches on 88 targets for 643 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging 11.7 yards per reception. He added 180 yards after the catch and was credited with three drops over the course of the season.

As a result, any team looking for wide receiver help is looking at Jennings. Moreover, the wideout is coming off visiting the Minnesota Vikings, who are looking for a player to fill that WR3 role.

Alec Lewis of The Athletic shared details on what was likely happening during Jennings’ time in the Vikings’ facilities.

“That visit was always kind of an exploratory type of feel,” Lewis said on the April 30 edition of “The Alec Lewis Show.” “It was never billed as ‘Jauan Jennings is coming here, it’s signing, done deal, over with and done for. ‘ It was always more of a, ‘Hey, you come meet us.

“We’re going to spend time with you, see where you’re at, talk through everything, fit, role, what we’re about, what this building is about, and then, obviously, some of the financial ideas with where both sides stand.’”

Could Minnesota Still Sign Jauan Jennings?

Moreover, Lewis shared that there’s still a possibility that Minnesota and Jennings reach a contract agreement in the future, even after he left the Vikings’ facilities without signing one.

“Just because Jauan Jennings was visiting, it was never like, ‘If this doesn’t happen, if he walks out of the building by Wednesday, what are we doing? The sky is falling. Do the Vikings even know what’s happening?‘” Lewis added. “Not at all. That’s not, I think, any expectation that that’s what this was about, just probably doesn’t hit the mark.”
