Ahead of Tuesday’s game, the Braves announced an injury update on Sean Murphy.
Zach Klein of WSB-Ch.2 Atlanta wrote: “Braves manager Walt Weiss says catcher Sean Murphy will be out… at minimum.. 8 weeks with a broken bone in his hand”
Due to Murphy’s injury, the Braves announced that they had signed Sandy León.
The Braves wrote (via X) on May 12: “The #Braves today signed free agent C Sandy León to a major league contract and placed C Sean Murphy on the 10-day injured list, backdated to May 11, with a fractured left middle finger. Atlanta today also selected OF José Azócar to the major league roster after optioning INF Jim Jarvis to Triple-A Gwinnett yesterday.”
Dodgers World Series Champion Braves Must Consider
GettyAustin Barnes #15 of the Los Angeles Dodgers runs to first during a game against the Philadelphia Phillies at at Citizens Bank Park on April 05, 2025 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
If León does not work out, one player the Braves should look to add is Austin Barnes.
The 36-year-old is currently a free agent who is available to sign with any team in the MLB.
Anthony DiComo of MLB.com wrote (on March 25): “The Mets released veteran catcher Austin Barnes, who had been in camp on a minor league deal. That leaves Hayden Senger and Kevin Parada as the organization’s top Minor League catching options.”
Barnes is no longer in his prime at 36, but he has a lot of experience (and would be a good veteran in the clubhouse).
The two-time World Series Champion spent all 11 years of his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
He has appeared in 44 MLB playoff games (and reached the World Series four times).
As recently as 2024, Barnes had a 12-game hitting streak.
Over 612 career games, Barnes is batting .223 with 338 hits, 35 home runs, 162 RBI’s, 206 runs and 23 stolen bases.
There is no question that he would be a good addition to the Braves (or another team).

They are 13-6 in 19 games at home.
