Dodgers Trade Prediction Offloads Ryan Ward, Roki Sasaki for Marlins’ $56 Million Starter

Poor Ryan Ward, he’s been in Major League Baseball for approximately one day, and is already featured as a trade candidate across major sports publications.

Per ESPN’s recent “Early MLB 2026 trade deadline preview for all 30 teams”, writer David Shoenfield believed Ryan Ward could be an attractive piece for several teams:

“Free Ryan Ward! Look, if the Dodgers need to upgrade, they can always trade one of their outfield prospects, but barring a long list of catastrophic injuries, they don’t have to do anything. Maybe, out of the kindness of their hearts, they will trade Ward. The 28-year-old, who’s on their 40-man roster, deserves an opportunity to play.”

If you’re Andrew Friedman and the rest of the Los Angeles Dodgers‘ front office, why not move Ryan Ward for Miami Marlins’ ace starter Sandy Alcantara?

What Would it Take for the Dodgers to Acquire Sandy Alcantara?

Look, the chances that Sandy Alcantara will be traded before August seem to be at an all-time high.

In this hypothetical trade idea by Heavy on Sports, a feasible trade package for Sandy Alcanatra that the Dodgers could propose includes Roki Sasaki and Ryan Ward.

Roki Sasaki was the Dodgers’ hero last playoffs, but his production as a starter has just not been good, and it begs the question if Los Angeles might want to offload him for another + starter.

In the same vein as Ryan Ward, Shoenfield believes Alcantara is the Marlins’ top trade candidate:

“Alcantara’s strong start to 2026 has increased his trade value — the Marlins were wise not to deal him in the offseason. He also has a reasonable $21 million club option for 2027, making him more attractive to other teams.”

Sandy Alcantara’s 2026 stats: 35.1 innings (leads MLB), 3.06 ERA, 1.047 WHIP, 23 SO’s

Roki Sasaki’s 2026 stats: 4 starts, 17.2 innings, 6.11 ERA, 17 K’s.

Think about if the Dodgers could land Alcantara for… Ryan Ward (who has no spot in the Dodgers’ outfield) and Roki Sasaki. Seems like something of a steal.

Ryan Ward’s MLB Debut Provides Perfect Trade Bait

Ryan Ward, after hitting 30+ home runs in back-to-back seasons in the minors, finally got his chance in the Dodgers’ lineup, and he picked up two hits and a RBI.

He got called up because of Freddie Freeman welcoming the birth of his new child, which sent him to the paternity list.

However, he might have already proved he can hit big league pitching, despite the Dodgers facing the Rockies on Sunday.

And as for Roki Sasaki, the Dodgers are 1-3 in his starts this season, and Los Angeles has just six losses on the season.

If the Dodgers acquired Sandy Alcantara, it certainly wouldn’t go over well with the MLB world, but it’s pretty clear at this point the Dodgers don’t care about public opinion.
