Dodgers Off to Best Start In Fifty Years, History Is On the Horizon

The Los Angeles Dodgers have won back-to-back World Series and have Shohei Ohtani, a four-time MVP, under contract for the next eight years. They have had more success recently than any other team in the league.

That’s why it might seem unfair that Los Angeles just keeps getting better. The Dodgers won their fifteenth game on April 17th, to improve to 15-4. It’s their best start since 1977.

That Dodgers team started 17-3, not losing their fourth game until May 1st.

It’s hard to believe the Dodgers have not started better than 15-4 since then. Between April 1977 and April 2026, the Dodgers have been to nine World Series and won five World Series titles. They have won 22 division titles, including in 12 of the last 13 seasons. They’ve been to the playoffs 25 times over a 50-year span. And they are still finding ways to outdo themselves.

The Dodgers Are Being Fueled By Veteran Success and Breakout Stars

Los Angeles continues to prove they can find stars in multiple ways. Andy Pages currently leads the team in OPS (1.083), AVG (.389), OBP (.450), SLG (.653), steals (3), RBI (21), and hits (28). Pages was once one of the Dodgers’ top outfield prospects, and it appears he has developed into a star centerfielder.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers’ homegrown catching duo has provided them with all sorts of highlights. Dalton Rushing, who took over for longtime backup Austin Barnes, is off to a blistering start. He’s hit five home runs in just 20 at-bats and has driven in nine runs.

Rushing owns a 1.874 OPS, a .500 average, and a 1.350 slugging percentage in his limited opportunities at the plate.

Meanwhile, the veteran Will Smith continues to be reliable behind the dish as well. He’s slashing .311/.386/.426 with two home runs of his own.

Leading the team in home runs is not Ohtani, but Max Muncy, whom the Dodgers traded for in 2018 and developed into an all-star corner infielder. Muncy was a diamond in the rough identified by the Dodgers, and he continues to produce in 2026. He’s already hit six home runs, scored 14 runs, and is sporting an .842 OPS.

Another trade acquisition, World Series hero Miguel Rojas, is hitting .323, filling in for Mookie Betts at shortstop.

Then there is the trio of big-name free agents the Dodgers have signed over the past few years. Shohei Ohtani is slugging .500 with an .896 OPS. He leads the team with 14 walks and has hit five home runs of his own. Freddie Freeman leads the team with seven doubles and is slashing a solid .296/.360/.519. And Kyle Tucker, the worst of the trio, is still hitting .260 with three home runs, 13 RBI, a team-high 16 runs scored, and a .759 OPS.

Dodgers Are Hoping To Make History in More Ways Than One

The Dodgers will be attempting to make history in more ways than one in 2026.

With back-to-back World Series titles, Los Angeles now has an opportunity to do something no National League team has ever done, and complete a three-peat. The Yankees have achieved a three-peat three times (and won as many as five in a row between 1949 and 1953), and the Athletics won three straight between 1972 and 1974.

The Dodgers have an opportunity to become the first NL team to three-peat, but they also have the opportunity to make history in another way.

With a 15-4 record, the Dodgers have won 78.9% of their games. The MLB single-season wins record was set by the Cubs and Mariners, who each won 116 games. That’s a 71.6% win rate, seven percent less than the pace Los Angeles is currently on. The Dodgers could not only threepeat, but they could become the greatest team of all time by breaking the Mariners’ wins record and winning a World Series while doing it, something the 2001 Mariners failed to do.
