Detroit Tigers Announce Latest Justin Verlander Update Before Rangers Series

On Friday, the Detroit Tigers will host the Texas Rangers in Michigan for the start of a three-game series.

The Tigers are coming off a 5-2 win over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday.

Ahead of Friday’s series, the Tigers announced the latest update on Justin Verlander.

He has been out since his only start of the season on March 30.

Evan Petzold of Detroit Free Press wrote: “Justin Verlander injury update: He completed a bullpen session Wednesday and is scheduled to throw another bullpen session Saturday or Sunday.”

According to MLB.com, Verlander is expected to return at some point this month.

Verlander had a tough outing on March 30 when he let up six hits and five earned runs in 3.2 innings.

The future Hall of Famer signed with the Tigers over the offseason.

He had spent the first 12 and a half seasons of his career with the franchise.

Brad Galli of WXYZ Detroit wrote (on February 10): “He’s back: Justin Verlander has agreed to terms on a one-year, $13 million deal to return to the Detroit Tigers. Wow.”

A.J. Hinch Speaks On Verlander

Manager A.J. Hinch gave the update on Verlander before Friday’s game (h/t Hobie Artigue of Local 4 WDIV Detroit).

Hinch: “We’re really just trying to get through the bullpens without symptoms… The hope is that he’s able to add more and more every session. He’s been able to do that slowly… If people are wondering about him, he’s pretty frustrated that it’s not going faster and is doing his best.”

Tigers Right Now

The Tigers come into Friday’s series as the second-place team in the American League Central with a 16-16 record in 32 games.

They are an outstanding 10-2 in the 12 games they have played at home.

Following the Rangers, the Tigers will play their next series on Monday when they remain in Detroit to host the Boston Red Sox.
