Amon-Ra St. Brown made his feelings about Jahmyr Gibbs’ new contract clear without writing a single word.
The Detroit Lions wide receiver reposted the NFL’s announcement about Gibbs on his Instagram Story on August 6 and added four grinning emojis. The unmistakably celebratory response came after Gibbs reportedly agreed to the parameters of a three-year extension carrying $67.5 million in base value, $51.5 million guaranteed and a maximum value of $75.75 million.
The reaction was brief, but it completed a storyline St. Brown had been part of throughout Gibbs’ training-camp hold-in.
St. Brown publicly supported the running back while negotiations continued, emphasizing that Gibbs had not separated himself from his teammates even though he was not practicing. Once the two sides found common ground, St. Brown was among the first prominent Lions players to celebrate it publicly.

St. Brown’s Reaction Followed His Public Support for Gibbs
Before the reported agreement, St. Brown offered a supportive description of how Gibbs was handling the contract standoff.
“He’s still in the building, he’s still at all the meetings and everything,” St. Brown said while discussing the situation. He added that the players understood what was happening, according to video shared on Instagram.
Those comments helped distinguish Gibbs’ absence from a conventional holdout. He reported to camp and remained involved in the team’s work away from the field while seeking a new contract.
Gibbs then took a visible step toward returning on August 6. He joined the Lions for stretching and walkthrough work but did not participate fully in team drills. Hours later, reports emerged that the parties had reached the parameters of an extension.
St. Brown’s four emojis supplied a fitting endpoint. He had made it known that Detroit’s players wanted Gibbs back, and his Instagram Story showed how he felt once the uncertainty appeared to be over.
The response also carried added significance because St. Brown has experienced a similar negotiation from the player’s side. Detroit secured the All-Pro receiver with a four-year extension in 2024, making him one of several homegrown players the organization has rewarded before they approached free agency.
Gibbs’ Agreement Removes a Lions Training-Camp Distraction
Gibbs’ reported extension allows the Lions to move forward without one of their biggest offensive questions hanging over training camp.
The 24-year-old produced 1,223 rushing yards, 616 receiving yards and 18 total touchdowns during the 2025 regular season. Through his first 49 NFL games, he accumulated 5,029 yards from scrimmage and 49 touchdowns.
That production explains why Detroit was willing to establish a new benchmark at a position teams have often approached cautiously. The reported $22.5 million new-money average would put Gibbs at the top of the running back market.
For this story, however, the more immediate consequence is simpler: St. Brown and the Lions are closer to getting a central part of their offense back into full practices.
Gibbs may still need an acclimation period after missing the opening portion of camp. His appearance in walkthrough work provided the first indication that a return was approaching, while the reported agreement removed the contractual obstacle that had kept him from participating fully.
St. Brown did not offer a detailed statement about the money, negotiations or what comes next.
