Deion Sanders wants any wide receiver-needy teams — including the Cleveland Browns — to know Arizona State star Jordyn Tyson is a weapon.
Coach Prime took to social media to deliver an out-of-the-blue endorsement of Tyson, who’s expected to be a first-round pick. Tyson began his college career at Colorado, but transferred out before Sanders arrived as the Buffaloes’ head coach.
Tyson, listed at 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, is a two-time All-Big 12 selection. Over two seasons (24 games) with the Sun Devils, he totaled 1,812 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns.
“To whom it may concern JORDYN TYSON IS HIM! His Mentality makes him that 1,” Sanders wrote on X.
Fans were quick to connect the dots, speculating that Sanders’ post was aimed directly at Cleveland — which holds the No. 6 and No. 24 picks in the first round — as the franchise looks to add another weapon for quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
“This almost tampering,” one fan wrote. “But as a Browns fan this is a big endorsement.”
“Well we know who the Browns are drafting at 6 now,” another added.
“Shedeur get off Coach Prime’s account,” a third joked.
Browns Non-Commital on Starting Quarterback
Shedeur Sanders appears to be the frontrunner to be the starting quarterback in Cleveland next season. He started seven games as a rookie, going 3-4 in those contests while passing for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions. The numbers were not always pretty but Sanders showed upside and playmaking ability.
However, during his introductory press conference, new head coach Todd Monken avoided making any clear-cut statements on Sanders or the quarterback situation in general.
“I think like any position on the team, that’s still to be determined,” Monken said. “Am I excited about Shedeur? Am I excited about all the quarterbacks in the room? Am I excited to coach this football team? Absolutely. I can’t wait for them to get back and for us to get started.”
Sanders has said he’s a fan of Monken coming in to replace Kevin Stefanski. The two connected briefly at the team facility after the hiring was announced.
“It’s truly great that he was able to coach Lamar and he was able to accomplish everything he was able to accomplish in his life and his career,” Sanders said of Monken, who was previously the Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator. “I feel like we definitely have a connection just from talking to him, just seeing his vibe. He has a great vibe about him.”
Todd Monken Gushes Over Deshaun Watson
The Browns are expected to explore all avenues to build out their quarterback room. But a healthy Deshaun Watson is also expected to return next season, which excites Monken.
“You’ve got two young players who still have a long way to go in terms of development, and that’s just part of the learning curve in the NFL,” Monken said during an interview with Ashley Holder of Cleveland 19 News. “Then you have a player like Deshaun, who is coming back from injury and was once a Pro Bowl player and an elite player in this league. We would love to tap back into that.”
Watson arrived in Cleveland in 2022 via a blockbuster trade. But he’s appeared in just 19 games and has not played a full season since 2020. Watson missed all of last season recovering from a twice ruptured Achilles.
