Dave Portnoy Sends Clear Message to 76ers After Game 4 Loss vs Celtics

The Philadelphia 76ers came up short against the Boston Celtics for the second game in a row, and Barstool Sports’ Dave Portnoy has a message for the Sixers.

“We want Boston, these scumbags in Philadelphia. I guess you’ve got to chant it. You’ve got to give it a chant. Just worry about the Flyers. You got Gritty out there throwing a penguin, he’s got a fork and a knife cooking up a penguin, but the Sixers are done!” Portnoy said on Wake Up Barstool.

The well-known Celtics supporter couldn’t help but to re-share a two-week-old video of the Philadelphia crowd chanting “We want Boston” amid a Sixers-Magic NBA Play-In game.

At the time, the 76ers were in a battle for the Eastern Conference’s seventh seed. By defeating the Magic, the Sixers picked up a round one series against the Celtics.

The chants turned into a laughing matter during the second half of Game 1. The Celtics were destroying the Sixers, and Boston fans mocked the chants by firing up one of their own at TD Garden.

“I mean, we have a tremendous crowd. Obviously, missing 60-some odd games, you know, I miss playing in front of our home crowd. Just the opportunity again to play here in the playoffs is special. It’s something I’ll never take for granted. I guess [the other chant] was a response to Philly fans.”

Portnoy, like many Celtics fans, felt little fear in a Sixers team that hasn’t had any playoff success against the Celtics during the Joel Embiid era.

The 2026 playoffs mark the fourth meeting between the Atlantic Division rivals in the postseason. In the previous three meetings, the Celtics came out on top. Two of those series were lopsided, including a 2020 sweep.

This year’s battle doesn’t seem to be all that close, either. Games 1 and 4 were complete blowouts in favor of Philly. Game 2 was a shocking road win for the Sixers, while the Celtics squeezed by a tight one in Philly during Game 3.

There is still at least one more game to be played on Tuesday, April 28. A Celtics win ends the series. A Sixers win forces Game 6 in Philly on Thursday.
