Cubs Star Pete Crow-Armstrong Facing Backlash After Latest Update

The Chicago Cubs came into the 2026 MLB season expecting a big year from center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong.

During the offseason, Jed Hoyer and the front office made a big decision about Crow-Armstrong. They decided to reward his impressive breakout 2025 campaign with a lucrative six-year, $115 million contract extension.

Crow-Armstrong was instantly made a cornerstone piece of the future by the Cubs with that deal. Unfortunately, he has gotten off to a brutal start to begin the 2026 campaign.

Keeping that in mind, a new update has been shared on social media that shows just how rough of a start he has had to the season. Eric Cross of RotoBaller was the one who shared just how bad Crow-Armstrong has been at the plate.

It didn’t take long for fans to jump into the comments section. Crow-Armstrong has been facing a lot of criticism.

Cubs Star Pete Crow-Armstrong Is Under Fire for Bad Start

Plenty of comments have already come in about Crow-Armstrong. Even though it’s still early in the season, fans are already calling him a bust.

“So he’s exactly who we thought he was,” one fan wrote.

A second comment read, “That contract may look like an albatross really quickly.”

“Oh wow whatta ya know. Cubs jumped the gun on resigning PCA based off 6 months of play,” a third fan said.

Another fan commented, “Dude has been a bottom of the barrel major league hitter since last June…not sure what all the hype is for tbh. Pretty much a chopped Kevin Kiermair.”

“Why did they pay him? Absolutely unproven at the plate and just came off one of the worst second halves you will ever witness,” a fifth fan wrote.

There Is Still Time for PCA to Turn Things Around

Throughout the first 16 games of the season, Crow-Armstrong has hit one home run to go along with five RBI and four stolen bases. He has also slashed .203/.239/.266.

At just 24 years old, the Cubs’ star outfielder is still working his way into his prime. However, there are always bumps in the road for young players.

Fans should not be panicking after a slump to begin the year. If the slump continues into June and July, then there would be reason to be concerned about the amount of money Chicago invested into him.

That being said, the frustration is understandable. The Cubs’ fan base was hoping to see Crow-Armstrong take the leap to stardom this season. It hasn’t happened yet, but there is no reason to give up hope on him just yet.
