Desiree Wooten scored a season-high 24 points, Tabitha Betson hit a pair of giant 3-pointers late in the fourth quarter and the Colorado women’s basketball team upset No. 19 Iowa State 68-62 on Wednesday night at the CU Events Center.
This is the sixth consecutive season the Buffaloes have defeated at least one Associated Press Top 25 opponent.
In front of a season-best crowd of 4,183 at the Events Center, CU held a 54-53 lead before Betson drained a 3-pointer with 3:07 to go. With 1:29 to play, she hit another, giving the Buffs a 60-53 lead.
The Buffs (12-6, 3-3 Big 12) struggled with their shooting most of the night before getting hot late. Their defense was stellar, though, especially against Cyclones star Audi Crooks.
The nation’s leading scorer at 28.3 points per game, Crooks had a season-low 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting, a .500 mark well below her season percentage of .698. She had four of her points in the last 11 seconds and was just 2-for-8 at one point.
