Cristiano Ronaldo Urged to ‘Pack It In’ Instead of MLS Move at 41

Cristiano Ronaldo remains a major talking point in football as debate grows over his future. Former Arsenal midfielder Anders Limpar urged him to end his career instead of chasing a move to Major League Soccer. He praised Ronaldo’s achievements but warned that extending his career could risk tarnishing his legacy.

Ronaldo, now 41, has been at the top of the sport for years. His rivalry with Lionel Messi when they played in La Liga is considered one of the most entertaining in sports. He achieved everything in the game, including league titles, UEFA Champions League trophies, and a 2016 UEFA European Cup win.

While he has an incredible list of accolades, the one trophy that eludes him is the FIFA World Cup. He is set to have another chance at lifting the trophy this summer in what is most likely his final World Cup appearance.

Ronaldo, currently playing for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, still appears interested in continuing his career. He is likely to receive interest from several clubs, including those in MLS. The league already features Messi on Inter Miami and has seen other veteran stars, including James Rodriguez and Antoine Griezmann join.

Ronaldo would bring strong attention to MLS, so teams may look past his age due to his popularity and potential revenue.

Anders Limpar Urges Cristiano Ronaldo to Avoid MLS

While Cristiano Ronaldo has proven he is capable of playing, Anders Limpar urged him to avoid MLS.

The former Arsenal midfielder has MLS experience, having played for the Colorado Rapids in 1999. However, the league has grown significantly since then. As a result, the travel demands can be difficult, especially with three Canadian teams in the league.

Limpar understands why MLS would pursue a player like Ronaldo, but urged him to retire once his current chapter ends.

“If MLS is to become an even bigger league, it should want to bring a star like Cristiano Ronaldo to the USA but he’s 41 years old now. He was injured for Portugal’s last two games, he’s got a World Cup coming up,” Limpar told NewBettingSites. “I admire guys like Lionel Messi and Ronaldo and they can still keep playing, all that they have won, it’s amazing, but surely Ronaldo should pack it in now after the World Cup.”

Limpar Says Ronaldo Would Struggle in MLS

Limpar also said he believes Ronaldo would struggle if he moved to MLS at this stage of his career.

Given the MLS roster rules, Ronaldo would be heavily relied on as a Designated Player. That could place significant pressure on him, particularly because he would be expected to score goals.

Limpar acknowledged the improved quality of play in the league and urged Ronaldo to retire.

“Why would you star another journey in MLS at 41? It’s not an easy league to play in. There are many very good players over there. My message to Ronaldo is please, for the sake of your legacy, score your 1000 goals and then call it a day,” he told NewBettingSites. “Nobody can get close to achieving what he has achieved as a football player. Don’t be stubborn. Just face life and pack it in.”
