The crash happened around 5:40 p.m. at L and West 4th streets, Antioch police Sgt. Rob Green said in a news release.

Green said a 20-year-old man was riding a dirt bike southbound on L Street at a “high rate of speed” and ran a stop sign at West 4th Street. The dirt bike then collided with a white van that had entered the intersection, injuring a 52-year-old man behind the wheel.

Officers arrived moments later to find both men unresponsive, Green said. The dirt bike rider was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the van, meanwhile, was taken to an area hospital, where he was listed in critical condition Wednesday night.

An investigation is underway into the collision. Anyone with information can contact the police department at 925-778-2441 or Traffic Collision Investigator Joshua Egan at jegan@antiochca.gov.
