Cowboys ‘Exploring RB Help’ Ahead of Minicamp: Report

Veteran running back Zamir White worked out for the Miami Dolphins in May. He recently had the same opportunity with the Dallas Cowboys.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported White visited the Cowboys for a workout days before the team’s minicamp. Dallas officially begins its mandatory minicamp Tuesday.

“Zamir White also worked out for the Cowboys in recent days, per source,” wrote Fowler on X. “Dallas exploring RB help.”

White spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Las Vegas Raiders. He started nine of 45 games for the team, posting 736 rushing yards with two touchdowns.

Last season, though, White had just 12 carries and caught four passes. Overall, he gained a career-low 56 yards from scrimmage.

In 2024, White spent some time on injured reserve. But he often served as a healthy scratch during 2025, playing in only six contests.

Entering minicamp, the Cowboys have six running backs on their rosterJavonte Williams, Jaydon Blue, Dominic Richardson, Phil Mafah, Malik Davis, and Israel Abanikanda.

White is looking for his next NFL opportunity this offseason after his rookie contract in Vegas expired.

White’s best statistical season occurred in 2023 when he ran for 451 yards. He averaged a career-best 4.3 yards per carry that campaign. White also caught 15 passes for 98 yards and scored his first NFL touchdown.

The running back started the final four games of the 2023 season for the Raiders. He remained in the team’s starting lineup to begin 2024. However, White then began dealing with leg injuries for the rest of the campaign.

He played just four games after October 1 in 2024. White finished the injury-plagued season with a 2.8 yards per carry average.

That average remained low last season (2.7), which led to his healthy scratches.

In college, White starred at Georgia, averaging 5.3 yards per carry over three seasons. From 2019-21, he ran for 2,043 yards for the Bulldogs in 38 games. White capped off his college career with a national championship.

The Raiders selected White at No. 122 overall in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Cowboys RB Depth at 2026 Mandatory Minicamp

Brian Schottenheimer Zamir White

GettyESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported Brian Schottenheimer and the Dallas Cowboys worked out veteran running back Zamir White before minicamp.

As Fowler’s report indicates, the Cowboys are still exploring their running back options. Williams led the team with 1,201 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns last season. But there was a big drop-off in production at RB2.

Davis was second for the Cowboys with 250 rushing yards during 2025.

Williams’ 1,200-yard campaign was a breakout season. But pundits have argued that Dallas might not be able to count on the running back repeating that production.

And if he suffers an injury, the Cowboys don’t appear to have dependable depth.

White could offer a solution. To sign him, though, the Cowboys will have to feel confident he gives the team more upside than the running backs already on the roster.

Blue received a lot of hype as a fifth-round pick last summer. But he earned just 38 carries as a rookie in 2025.

The other three Cowboys running backs — Richardson, Mafah and Abanikanda — don’t have a combined 100 yards on the ground in the NFL.

Dallas will conclude its offseason program this week. The Cowboys will host their minicamp from June 16-18.
