Cowboys’ Dak Prescott Delivers New Health Update

For Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, the winter of 2026 has, so far, been a bit different than those he’s had in past years. That’s because, despite playing all 17 games in what he admits was a “disappointing” 2025 season, and despite throwing 600 passes and completing a league-high 404 of them, Prescott finds himself in early February in a rare circumstance: He’s healthy.

Speaking ahead of the 2026 Pro Bowl games this week, Prescott told DLLS Cowboys’ Clarence Hill that he mostly got through last season unscathed. And that could put him on a path to be in better condition when he shows up for camp this summer. In what’s been a rarity for him, he has already begun his offseason workouts.

Said Prescott: “Start earlier, really. I’ve already started training. Obviously, I haven’t hit it nonstop but I’ve already gotten in more days than I’ve ever gotten in my career in an offseason.”

Dak Prescott ‘Super, Super Thankful’ for Health

Prescott is in his 10th season with the Cowboys, and at age 32, he is grateful to be able to get through a healthy season. He reached a special milestone during 2025, passing Tony Romo as the franchise’s all-time leading passer, a record that now stands at 35,989 yards. He also leads the franchise’s record book in completions, at 3,184 and attempts, at 4,759.

He still trails Romo in passing touchdowns, at 243 to Romo’s 248.

Prescott saw his 2024 season sunk in Week 9 when he suffered a hamstring avulsion–essentially a tearing away of the hamstring from the bone–which made his ability to stay upright throughout 2025 all the more satisfying.

“For me, it’s huge,” he said. “Finishing the season out healthy, being in the league this long, understanding injuries come up, the little nicks and knacks, but to finish the season playing all the games and being healthy and go into the offseason full go without having to you know, doctor something or bandage it is a blessing and I am super, super thankful for it.”

Cowboys Were ‘Disappointing’

Still, at 7-9-1, the Cowboys were a disappointment last season, and the franchise’s continued lack of big-picture success with him at the helm continued. The Cowboys have gone to the playoffs five times under Prescott, and are just 2-5.

While the defense took the bulk of the blame for the Cowboys’ flop last season, Prescott acknowledged the offense deserves its criticism, too.

“Disappointing, tough year. But at the end of the day, we on offense, as much success as we had, we still didn’t play complementary in those games that we needed to, some of those games that we did win, the defense were the ones that stepped up and allowed us, right, to have an opportunity to win. You think about Philly and you think about Kansas City, and some of those game where they didn’t play their best, we didn’t play our best by scoring as many points we could.

“That’s just the reality of this game and the team game. It’s an important offseason. We’ve got to make sure we get that side of the ball right, but we got to make sure that we aren’t complacent on our side of the ball. We’ve got to get one of our guys signed and make sure we take a big step.”
