Colorado weather: Red Flag warnings continue Monday as wildfires pop up across Front Range

Critical fire weather conditions continue Monday, with Red Flag warnings blanketing the state from Interstate 25 eastward.

Sunday also had fire dangers, and firefighters in Aurora, Boulder and Colorado Springs and at the U.S. Air Force Academy battled blazes across the Front Range.

Red Flag warnings are in effect until 6 p.m. Monday. Winds will strengthen through the day, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph. Some humidity levels will become more moderate between 15% and 20%, but the wind speeds will likely keep conditions critical.

Crews Monday morning are still battling the 150-acre West Monument Creek Fire at the U.S. Air Force Academy near Colorado Springs, and a separate grass fire broke out in Colorado Springs on Monday morning.

In Aurora on Sunday, firefighters stopped two separate fires near the Anadarko Petroleum Corporation plant from reaching the plant, according to a news release.

The fires, which were each about five acres, were reported about 5 p.m. near North Powhatan Road and Interstate 70 on the east and west sides of the plants.
