Former UFC middleweight champion and legendary combat sports writer Thomas Gerbasi will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame this summer.
The promotion announced during the UFC 328 broadcast that both men will enter the UFC Hall of Fame when they are inducted this summer during International Fight Week in Las Vegas. Weidman is currently an analyst for the UFC on Paramount+ broadcasting crew and will be inducted into the Modern Wing of the UFC Hall of Fame. Meanwhile, Gerbasi will be inducted into the HOF posthumously, as he passed away following a heart attack on September 16, 2025. He will be the newest member of the Contributor Wing.
Chris Weidman is a UFC Middleweight Great
The history of the UFC middleweight division can not be written without Chris Weidman, who was the man who snapped Anderson Silva’s historic 16-fight UFC win streak when he knocked Silva out at UFC 162 in July 2013 to claim the middleweight title. The 41-year-old Long Island native defended the UFC middleweight title three times, first against Silva in a rematch, then against Lyoto Machida and Vitor Belfort, before losing his belt to Luke Rockhold in December 2015.
Overall, Weidman had a 16-8 record in MMA, including a 12-8 record in the UFC. On top of the names listed above, Weidman also holds notable wins over Kelvin Gastelum, Demian Maia, Mark Munoz, and Uriah Hall. Out of his 16 career victories, 10 of his wins came by stoppage.
Weidman retired from the UFC in January 2025 following a knockout loss to Eryk Anders in the final fight of his career. He has since been linked to a potential MMA comeback in GFL and in a professional boxing match against his longtime rival, Silva, on Netflix, but nothing has come together at this point. Given Weidman’s age and considering all of the injuries he has dealt with during his MMA career, it is unknown if he plans on trying another comeback or if he’s done for good and is content with his broadcasting career. Either way, he had a fantastic UFC career, and that’s why he’s going into the Hall of Fame.
Thomas Gerbasi Was a Legendary Combat Sports Writer
Thomas Gerbasi is one of the greatest combat sports writers to ever live. He was a longtime boxing writer but was most well-known for his MMA journalism. Gerbasi was the editorial director at UFC.com for many years, penning thousands of articles about the sport he loved so dearly, while also being one of the best interviewers in the game. He also wrote the “UFC Encyclopedia,” which made sense, as he knew more about the sport than anyone on the planet.
Gerbasi tragically passed away last September following a heart attack at age 57, leaving behind his wife of 31 years, Sonia, and their daughter, Jordan. When he passed, there was an outpouring of grief from the MMA community, as Gerbasi was well-liked and respected by everyone in the industry. He is considered the gold standard of MMA journalism, and he absolutely deserves to be the first combat sports writer inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame. We all miss you, Tom.
