Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick is locked in at training camp as he works towards his goal of starting in Week 1.
After suffering an ACL and MCL tear in December, he was fully cleared to participate in training camp — but that doesn’t mean he’s ready to go.
“The process isn’t over,” Mahomes told reporters at the start of camp. “It’ll be something I’ll probably be dealing with the next few years of my career and throughout the rest of my career. But I feel comfortable now being able to go out there and run the offense the way the offense is supposed to be run.”

While Mahomes’ focus remains on his rehab, he also makes time for important off-field events. Days before the start of camp, Mahomes and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, attended a back-to-school event sponsored by his foundation, 15 and the Mahomies, and FARE, Food Allergy Research & Education.
Now, the three-time Super Bowl MVP is teaming up with another NFL legend for another great cause.
Patrick Mahomes, Rob Gronkowski Rallying Small Town H.S. Football Teams to Win Up to $8.4 Million in Prizes
Mahomes and former New England Patriots legend Rob Gronkowski announced they’re back to lead T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights sweepstakes on August 6. The nationwide movement that supports small-town high schools is giving away $8.4 million in prizes this year.
While schools compete for the grand prize, $1 million to upgrade the school’s field — 1,000 schools will win $5,000 through weekly Friday giveaways, 40 finalists will win $25,000 after landing a coveted spot in the Division Bracket, and more.
All U.S. high schools in towns with a population of 150,000 or less are eligible to apply. Inola High School in Inola, Oklahoma won the grand prize in 2024 while Dierks High School in Dierks, Arkansas, won last year.
“It’s great to be back for another season of Friday Night 5G Lights,” Mahomes shared in a statement. “This program celebrates the passion, pride and sense of community that makes high school football so special. I am excited to recognize the players, fans and hometowns that bring that energy every Friday night.”

The 30-year-old quarterback knows what it’s like to play football in a small town. He attended Whitehouse High School in Tyler, Texas, a city of approximately 115,000 people.
The two-time league MVP, along with former Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III, was inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame in 2025.
Mahomes was a star for the Whitehouse Wildcats, throwing for more than 8,000 yards and 90 touchdowns in his final two high school seasons. He went to college at Texas Tech before the Chiefs selected him as the No. 10 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.
