Chicago Park District to keep 20 pools open through Labor Day

The Chicago Park District is extending some of its end-of-summer aquatics programs through Labor Day weekend, keeping 20 community pools, 23 beaches and over 200 water play features open.

The expanded schedule means beaches and some pools will be open though Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 7.

The Park District said it chose to extend the closing dates of 20 pools in many neighborhoods with higher vulnerability to extreme heat, based on Chicago’s updated Heat Vulnerability Index. Last year, the Chicago Park District kept 19 pools open beyond their normal closing dates in late August, when the school year begins and much of the Park District’s young work force is no longer available.

The 200 water features will remain open through Sept. 30.
