Chicago Cubs Proposed MLB Trade for Tarik Skubal Offloads Two Top Prospects

The Chicago Cubs are starting to emerge as a real threat to land Detroit Tigers’ southpaw starter Tarik Skubal if they can formulate the right trade package. The reports surrounding the Tarik Skubal trade saga are starting to point in the direction that the 2X AL CY Young winner will be on the move this season.

Chicago, which continues to be urged to make a trade for a starting pitcher, figures to be a player in the Skubal sweepstakes. One thing to remember/consider when discussing these Tarik Skubal rumors is the fact that he’s set to become a free agent at season’s end, and will line up to sign the largest contract for a pitcher in MLB history.

The progression of these Tarik Skubal rumors is several outlets and sites proposing MLB trade packages for Tarik Skubal.

A recent one by MLB Network analyst Lance Brozdowski looks like this:

Cubs receive: Tarik Skubal

Tigers receive: prospects Pedro Ramirez (3B/2B), Kevin Alcantara (OF), Kaleb Wing (RHP)

Cubs fans, deal or no deal?

Although Chicago will return some reinforcements to their starting staff, the team lacks a true dominant ace, which they likely need to make a deep run in the MLB playoffs. They have also been linked to Freddy Peralta in recent rumors.

Everyone knows it by now, but there are a few more valuable players to their team that Tarik Skubal is to the Detroit Tigers. This is what happens when you neglect to sign a player who is undoubtedly the face of your franchise.

Tarik Skubal figures to return to the Tigers rotation shortly, which he will inevitably dominate against opposing lineups, and Detroit will have several MLB teams making calls on him.

In 43.1 innings this season, Skubal has an ERA of 2.70 with 45 strikeouts and a FIP of 2.10. He will look very good in whatever his new threads are, but as for the Cubs and this proposal mocked by MLB Network, does it make sense for the Cubs to get rid of three prospects for a couple of months of Skubal?
