Chicago Cubs Must Consider Trading For 2x MLB All-Star Amid Injury Troubles

The Chicago Cubs came into the 2026 season with a lot of hope.

They are coming off another strong year where they reached the NLDS.

That said, the Cubs have been hit with several injuries, including losing Cade Horton for the rest of the season.

One player the Cubs should consider adding is Miami Marlins star Sandy Alcantara.

At 30, he is still one of the best pitchers in the National League, and recently threw a complete game shutout earlier this month.

Nicho Roessler of RotoBaller wrote (on April 1): “Sandy Alcantara with a complete game shutout in his second start of the season for the 🎣

In addition to Alcantara looking like he is on track to have an All-Star season, there was a report from Bob Nightengale of USA Today that he is expected to be moved at the trade deadline.

Underdog MLB wrote (on April 5): “Nightengale: Rival executives fully expect Marlins to trade Sandy Alcantara by trade deadline.

Alcantara spent his rookie season with the St. Louis Cardinals.

He has been with Miami for the last nine years.

In 2022, Alcantara won the Cy Young Award, going 14-9 with a 2.28 ERA in 32 games.

Jordan McPherson of The Miami Herald wrote (on March 27): “Sandy Alcantara is the first Marlins pitcher to go at least seven innings on Opening Day since Henderson Alvarez III in 2015. Others in franchise history to do so:

Josh Beckett in 2004 –Ryan Dempster in 2002 (7.1 IP) -Alex Fernandez in 2000 -Kevin Brown in both 1997 and 1996″

While Alcantara hasn’t spent a lot of time on winning teams (making the playoffs only once), he has had a very strong career.

Over 180 games, he has gone 54-67 with a 3.58 ERA.
