On Sunday, the Chicago Cubs will wrap up their series with the Los Angeles Dodgers in California.
The Cubs are coming off a 12-4 loss on Saturday.
The loss snapped their 10-game winning streak.
Vince Velasquez pitched 2.1 innings, allowing one hit with one strikeout.
Cubs Announce Roster Decision On 10-Year MLB Veteran

Before Sunday’s game, the Cubs announced a roster decision on Velasquez.
Patrick Mooney of The Athletic wrote: “Today’s roster moves for the Cubs at Dodger Stadium: Riley Martin placed on the injured list with left elbow inflammation; Vince Velasquez DFA’d; Charlie Barnes and Yacksel Ríos added to the bullpen.”
Velasquez appeared in just the one game with the Cubs this season.
He has also played in four Minor League games for the organization.
Velasquez’s MLB Career

Velasquez was picked in the second round of the 2010 MLB Draft.
He played his rookie season for the Houston Astros.
The 33-year-old is most known for his stint with the Philadelphia Phillies where he spent part of six seasons.
Sportsnet Stats wrote (on April 14, 2016): “Vince Velasquez is the first #Phillies pitcher with 16 strikeouts and 0 walks in a start since Curt Schilling in 1997”

Following the Phillies, Velasquez had stints with the Chicago White Sox, San Diego Padres, Pittsburgh Pirates (and Cubs).
It will be interesting to see if the Cubs (or another team) pick him up before the end of the 2026 season.

The Cubs come into Sunday as the second-place team in the National League Central with a 17-10 record in 27 games.
They are 6-5 in the 11 games they have played on the road away from Wrigley Field.
Following the Dodgers, the Cubs will visit the San Diego Padres on Monday.
