Chicago Bears Receive a Definitive Myles Garrett Trade Update

With the Chicago Bears‘ well-documented active pursuit of All-Pro edge rusher Maxx Crosby deflating, it was inevitable that rumors would start to fly about potentially trading for other star pass rushers. Then, as the Crosby fallout began to die down, news broke that the Cleveland Browns were restructuring 2025 Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett’s contract. This announcement sparked several theoretical scenarios in which the Bears could land the NFL single-season sack record holder in a trade. While nothing is truly off the table and anything is possible, the Browns’ recent Myles Garrett update appears to shut down any thoughts of him being traded.

Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry dispelled the thought that Garrett’s contract restructure had anything to do with the team preparing to trade him.

“If we wanted to trade Myles, we wouldn’t have needed to make a contract adjustment,” Berry said from the NFL’s annual meeting. “So it doesn’t have anything to do with that.”

“Myles is a career Brown,” Berry later said. “He is one of the faces of our organization. I think we’ve been very clear both past and present in terms of our feelings. I understand all the questions. I’ll be honest, I don’t really want to waste a ton more breath on the topic.”

Berry’s comments seem pretty definitive on the subject.

Yet, despite his comments, there is still a chance a trade could happen at some point.

Sports Illustrator writer Mike Moraitis just covered a story about why the Bears should still be interested in a trade attempt for Garrett.

Bears Chance To Get Myles Garrett May Come In The Future

GettyThe Chicago Bears had the 24th-best pass-rushing unit last season, according to Pro Football Focus.

Moraitis reported that Garrett Podell of CBS Sports believes the Bears should still try to pull off a blockbuster trade.

“Teams that should be interested: Chicago Bears, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers,” Podell wrote.

Moraitis justified Podell’s comments by stating that, “While the door is currently closed on the Browns trading Garrett, we also know that things can change quickly in the NFL.”

“History suggests the Browns don’t have a good chance to turn things around in the current rebuild and if the losing continues, Garrett could very well get frustrated to the point he requests another trade like he did in 2025.”

The NFL Draft is quickly approaching, and the Bears will have an opportunity to address the pass rush, potentially with the 25th overall pick. However, if they walk out of the draft without an upgrade in the trenches, then all eyes will likely shift back to Garrett. A midseason trade should not be out of the question, especially if the Bears and Browns end up being in the positions we think they will be in next year.

Bears Could Pursue Top Pass Rush Prospect In The First Round

Rueben Bain Stats

GettyEdge Rueben Bain Jr. recorded 121 total tackles, 33.5 tackles for loss, 20.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, one interception, and 2 pass breakups in three seasons across 38 career games at Miami.

One of the top pass rush prospects coming into the 2026 NFL Draft has been Miami Hurricanes edge Rueben Bain Jr.

NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah has Bain Jr. as his number seven prospect in the whole draft.

Despite his ranking, Jeremiah, as well as other draft analysts, has recently reported that Bain Jr. could slide in the draft.

This is mainly due to concerns over his 30 ⅞ inch arm length, which is relatively short for a pass rusher.

Despite this concern, there is little to no chance that he falls all the way to pick number 25 for the Bears because of his high production. However, the Bears’ trading up becomes a much more likely option if Bain Jr. crosses the double-digit threshold.

If they were willing to play ball with the idea of trading for Crosby, which would have cost them potentially two first-round picks, would they flirt with the idea of sacrificing just one for a younger edge threat? Only time will tell what Chicago decides to do to address their pass rush, but if they want to compete for a Super Bowl next season, it’s an area in need of addressing.
