Chicago Bears HC Ben Johnson Going Viral For Hilarious Off-Field Moment

For as serious as he looks on gameday, Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson has proved in more ways than one that he’s got a great sense of humor. The first sign of Johnson’s more light-hearted side came when he reportedly trolled quarterback Caleb Williams before his NBA All-Star game appearance.

Following Williams’ poor performance in the celebrity three-point contest, Johnson decided to open up a media session at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine with, “I know what everyone’s thinking. Does Caleb have NBA aspirations? And the answer is no.”

Johnson’s opening joke was met with laughter by the media, and he then went on to elaborate on how he felt bad because he believed he jinxed the Bears’ signal-caller.

“I sent him a meme of a guy just missing left and right like before,” Johnson said. “And then when it actually happened, I felt bad. I was like, Whoops! Spoke that one into existence, didn’t I?”

While this was a great moment of Johnson poking fun at his starting signal caller, his latest joke nearly fooled all the fans.

Johnson’s willingness to mess with Williams provides just a glimpse into his real relationship with the players. It’s clear why the energy is so different in Chicago now compared to recent seasons. Johnson initially endeared himself to Bears’ fans when he ripped his shirt off following the Bears’ Week 12 win against the Philadelphia Eagles.

While this moment was iconic in isolation, it only happened because The Wieners Circle, a famous hot-dog stand in Chicago, promised to give away free hot dogs if Johnson did it.

In Johnson’s most recent viral moment, he called back to his hot dog days by fake-ripping off his shirt at a Chicago Bulls game.

This moment not only reminded Bears fans of why they love their head coach but also why the team is in good hands moving forward. Chicago is entering an offseason where they hope to solidify their roster for a Super Bowl run.

Chicago Bears Expected to Pursue Big-Time Players

With Caleb Williams still on his rookie contract, general manager Ryan Poles will be looking to capitalize on adding star power to the team before they have to pay him. The Bears currently have the seventh-lowest cap space in the NFL, but have reportedly been exploring options to open up more financial room. This would include moving off certain veteran players with heavy contracts, like DJ Moore or Tremaine Edmunds.

Ryan Poles also indicated that the Bears will be looking to add high-level players from other teams. When asked if the Bears will be interested in big-time players on the trade market, Poles answered, Absolutely. We are making the call.”
