Charges pending for gunman who opened fire on CTA bus outside Midway Airport

A man was arrested after firing shots on an empty CTA bus parked outside Midway Airport Monday afternoon on the Southwest Side.

Around 5:40 p.m., the 33-year-old man was on the bus, number 8026, at 4612 W. 59th St. when he fired shots and caused damage to the bus, including bullet holes, Chicago police said.

“Offender is shooting from the 47th Street bus,” an OEMC dispatcher told an officer over police radio when a 10-1 was called and several officers rushed to the scene and arrested the man.

“We have a crime scene on the bus,” an officer told the dispatcher. Charges were pending for the suspect, who police called an “active shooter.”

A gun was recovered at the scene.

No injuries were reported.
