Chargers Listed as Top Landing Spot for 22-Touchdown Weapon

The Los Angeles Chargers were expected to have a notable 1-2 running back duo in 2025 with Omarion Hampton and Najee Harris, but injuries prevented that from happening.

Hampton fractured his ankle in week 5, sidelining the player for a couple of months, while Harris tore his Achilles tendon in week 3 of the 2025 season, forcing the running back to end his season.

Hampton, a first-round selection of the 2025 draft, will be healthy for next season. Harris, on the other hand, was on a one-year deal with the Bolts, appears healthy, but remains a free agent.

Now looking ahead to the 2026 season, one NFL writer believes the Bolts are a possible landing spot for a member of the Miami Dolphins and help give the team a solid running back duo.

Bolts Named Landing Spot for Former Mike McDaniel Pick

The Chargers running back committee ran for 2,067 yards last season, with a third coming from quarterback Justin Herbert, putting himself in harm’s way.

Needing to protect the QB and gain another running back, with Najee Harris no longer on the squad, the Bolts need another rusher on the roster.

Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski names the Bolts as a possible landing destination for Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane.

“This offseason, the Los Angeles Chargers hired Mike McDaniel to fill their offensive coordinator vacancy. As the play-calling head coach of the Miami Dolphins, he coached and designed plays for De’Von Achane over the last three seasons,” Sobleski wrote. “In 2025, Achane led the league with 5.7 yards per carry and racked up 1,838 scrimmage yards. McDaniel knows how to get the most out of him and can continue to do so in Los Angeles.”

“The Chargers would have a blend of speed and power with Achane and Omarion Hampton in the backfield. They would be in the conversation as one of the NFL’s best running back duos.”

Achane registered 1,350 rushing yards and 8 touchdown carries, while recording 488 reciving yards and 4 touchdowns in the pass game.

A two-dimensional player under McDaniel, pairing De’Von Achane with Justin Herbert, Achane could have a strong season if dealt to the city of LA.

Sobleski predicts that if the Chargers were to acquire the running back, the Bolts would give up wide receiver Quentin Johnston, a second-rounder and an early Day 3 pick in return.

Other Options at Running Back

Kimani Vidal, Green Bay Packers

When both Omarion Hampton and Najee Harris went down, Kimani Vidal had the bulk of the carries in the previous season.

Vidal ran for 643 yards and 3 touchdowns, both career highs. The running back also contributed in the pass game, hauling in 136 yards and a touchdown on 16 receptions — Vidal logged 177 kick return yards on 8 attempts.

The Bolts placed the exclusive rights tender on the running back after his performance in the 2025 season, keeping Vidal for another year.

With how Kimani Vidal played in a lead-back position, it can be assumed that a running back duo of Hampton and Vidal could be promising. If the Chargers head this direction, they would be out of the race for De’Von Achane.
