Chargers Hold Draft Visit With Georgia Tight End

The Los Angeles Chargers are seemingly taking an approach where anything is possible for them in the early rounds of the draft. By holding visits with players from various different position groups, they have cast a wide net. They may have cast none wider than having Georgia tight end Oscar Delp on a top 30 visit.

With Oronde Gadsden II having a breakout rookie season last year at the position, it’s safe to say Chargers fans will be a little bit dismayed that the Chargers are using a visit on another tight end. Still, Delp’s skill set could help open up a lot of avenues for the Chargers’ offense.

A Dynamic Pass-Catching Duo in the Making?

For one, much like Gadsden, he is an elite pass catching tight end who can produce yards after the catch effectively. In fact, his 7.8 yards after the catch ranked 18th amongst all tight ends with at least 25 targets to their name. He also showcased some elite speed at the combine as well, running a 4.44 40 yard dash. He also has the requisite experience to be an NFL ready threat, having played four seasons with the Bulldogs.

While the Chargers have already made a free agent signing at the position with Charlie Kolar, he would primarily be more of a blocking tight end for Mike McDaniel’s outside zone scheme to create lanes in the running game. Should the Chargers draft Delp, he would complement the threat of Gadsden, especially down the seam with his elite speed.

Depth vs. Value: Is Delp Worth the Investment?

Los Angeles’ interest in him may not be worth a Day 3 pick when they have already made a move to improve the position’s depth, but Delp could round out the group in a way that takes pressure off of everybody concerned. He will even out the target share without putting pressure on Gadsden and he would also help open up defenses so that Kolar can block effectively on run schemes.

It is important to note however, that Delp did play all of 2025 with a hairline fracture that did go undetected. While he mentioned that he was pain free, that will be something the Chargers would have to monitor should they draft him. Considering the fact that rookie injuries are what derailed several of their offensive playmakers last year, they do not want a similar situation when they could end up needing Delp down the stretch.

For the Chargers, this draft could make or break how they are viewed by the rest of the NFL. A move for Delp may not move the needle in any one particular direction, but it could be an exciting addition to an already sneaky group for the franchise. It is paramount that at the very least in this draft, the Chargers supply Justin Herbert with as much help as possible, whether it be in the pass catching department or the O-line. Delp could end up going a long way to the success of Herbert in this new-look offense.

Chargers fans may not like the decision to hold a visit for him, but he could end up being a fan favorite should he continue to impress in the pre-draft process
