The Los Angeles Chargers‘ season ended in the Wild Card Round with a loss to the New England Patriots.
The offseason is here. And one of the first questions facing the organization is what happens with Keenan Allen.

Allen made it clear last offseason that he only wanted to play for the Chargers. That does not appear to have changed. And this time, the Chargers seem prepared to act faster rather than dragging negotiations into the summer.

Allen is not the same player he was in his prime. His volume decreased this season. But his effectiveness in critical moments did not.
He was one of Justin Herbert‘s most trusted third-down targets. His route-running remains sharp. His ability to find soft spots in coverage gave Herbert a reliable option when plays broke down.
Some fans worry that Allen will limit snaps for younger players. But Hortiz addressed that concern directly when asked if the roster has too many receivers.
“I’m ok with having too many good players,” Hortiz said.
Depth at receiver is not a problem. It is an asset. Allen provides veteran stability while young guns Ladd McConkey, Tre Harris, and Quentin Johnston continue developing.

Allen is technically free to explore other options as a free agent.
But the reality is that both sides want this to work. The Chargers have now publicly stated they want him back.
Allen will not command top-tier money at 34 years old. But his value to Herbert and the offense remains clear, and that should be reflected in whatever deal gets done.
