Carlos Ulberg Breaks Silence After ‘Freak Accident’ During UFC 327 Title Fight

Carlos Ulberg broke his silence after a freak injury nearly ended his title aspirations at UFC 327. Ulberg appeared to sustain an ACL injury during his main event bout with Jiri Prochazka. He was noticeably compromised, but still won the fight.

Ulberg dropped Prochazka and finished him with strikes to win the vacant light heavyweight championship. His determination and toughness was on full display, as nobody would have criticized him if he had chosen to stop fighting. Instead, Ulberg stayed resilient and did not allow his hard work to go to waste.

The reigning light heavyweight has since addressed the injury and described his initial thoughts when it occurred.

Carlos Ulberg Addresses Injury During UFC 327 Title Fight Against Jiri Prochazka

Carlos Ulberg reflected on his bout against Jiri Prochazka and what led to his injury. He said it was a freak injury and did not come from a strike.

During his appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Ulberg admitted that he is still feeling the effects of the injury. He said his knee is still swollen. However, the light heavyweight is still unsure whether he tore his ACL.

“It was a freak accident. What had happened was I pushed off my leg and essentially it’s just my knee that gave out and that just caused a little bit of vulnerability in the fight,” Ulberg said. “We don’t know for sure [if it’s a torn ACL]. We’re just waiting. I’ll get the scans done when I arrive in Vegas this week and we’ll know everything once that’s all done.”

He added: “[My knee is] just swollen at the moment and it’s hard to get up, so definitely something going on in there.”

Ulberg also described what he felt when he sustained the injury during the fight and how it limited his movement.

“The knee felt like it was kind of going in and out of the socket,” he said. “I couldn’t bear any weight on that leg. And every time I would push off that right foot or put any kind of weight on that leg then it would give out. The pain that I had to go through was unbearable.”

Ulberg Sounds Off on Prochazka for Post-Fight Remarks at UFC 327

Ulberg also took aim at Prochazka for his post-fight remarks. The former light heavyweight champion told Joe Rogan that he showed mercy to his opponent, which resulted in his loss.

Ulberg disputed those remarks and claimed that Prochazka was making excuses.

“That’s [expletive]. That was fear that [Prochazka] had, that wasn’t any kind of mercy. He knows, he’s a fighter. And that’s that difference between a champion and a someone who is just playing for the crowd,” Ulberg told The Ariel Helwani Show. “He was full of fear, hesitation, and that’s what got him clipped.”

Ulberg also cast doubt on a future rematch against Prochazka.

“There is no way he gets a rematch. I don’t see him getting past [Magomed] Ankalaev. He gets his [expletive] beat by Ankalaev and I don’t see him in the title picture anymore.”
