Cardinals Share Big Kyler Murray Update Amid Vikings Speculation

The Minnesota Vikings need to bolster their quarterback position this offseason after failing to make the playoffs in 2025. It’s early on in the offseason, but speculation continues to swirl, and one of the names in the mill is Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray.

Murray is also in the speculation mill about his future with the Cardinals, as many expect the former No. 1 pick to be cut. As a result, if Arizona does cut ties with him, many see the Vikings as an ideal landing spot for Murray and potentially do what Sam Darnold did.

Amid the uncertainty regarding Murray, Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort shared an update on their QB’s situation at the NFL Scouting Combine.

“I’d say all options are on the table for us,” Ossenfort said on Feb. 24 (h/t Pro Football Talk). “We’ve got Kyler [Murray], Jacoby [Brissett], Kedon [Slovis] all under contract as it pertains to that position. As it pertains to every position on our team, we’re going to look at every avenue to improve. We’re going to continue and go through our process with that.”

“I’ve always had a good dialogue with Kyler,” Ossenfort said. “It wasn’t up to what Kyler wanted [last season]. It wasn’t up to what any of us wanted of the season as a whole. When you have the kind of year that we had, there’s a lot of room for improvement. We’ve got to find a way to do that not only at that position but at all positions. That’s what we’re all focusing on is getting better and moving forward.”

Kyler Murray Urged to Go to Minnesota

Although many expect Murray to be cut, Arizona will attempt to trade him for something of value. Murray is set to earn $36.8 million guaranteed for the 2026 season, and his $19.5 million base salary for 2027 will also become guaranteed if he remains on Arizona’s roster as of March 15, per Pro Football Talk.

If no team wants to take on that contract and Murray is cut, ESPN’s Mike Tannenbaum believes that the QB should take an extra step if he is indeed released by Arizona and take a pay cut to ensure that the Vikings have no problems signing him.

“If I’m Kyler Murray, I am walking from Arizona to Minnesota, and say, ‘Kevin O’Connell, how much do I have to pay you?’” Tannenbaum said on the Feb. 20 edition of “Get Up.”

“Kevin is great with quarterbacks, and if I’m Kyler Murray, at his age and this inflection point of his career, I’d go invest a year or two, get coached up, and see what happens. With this offensive line, those weapons, to me, you’re not getting paid for this year. You’re investing in your future.”

Vikings Keeping All Options Open

As for the Vikings, they aren’t leaving any stone unturned this free agency as they look to improve the QB position.

“We have not a ton of time, but we have a couple of weeks and so we’re exploring every option that could be out there,” Executive vice president of football operations Rob Brzezinski said (h/t Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com). “It’s casting a wide net, I guess I would say.”
