A bit of controversy set in during Saturday’s clash between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky.
Aside from the first-half skirmish between Sophie Cunningham and DiJonai Carrington, which led to Carrington’s ejection after a hard foul, the game had remained relatively calm.
In the third quarter, however, Fever superstar Caitlin Clark received a technical foul for what appeared to be an accidental bump with the referee. Clark drove down the baseline before partially stepping out of bounds after passing the ball.

Since this is Clark’s eighth technical foul of the season, she’ll receive a one-game suspension under WNBA rules unless the league rescinds the technical. The league has done so in the past.
WNBA Fans React on Social Media
Fans instantly reacted to the referee’s decision to give Clark a technical foul and the possibility that she’ll miss the Fever’s next game against the New York Liberty on Tuesday.
“Imagine getting a technical foul for simply existing near the referee,” a fan said.
Someone else added, “Accidental run in to the referee gets you suspended for the next game.”
Another person wrote, “It’s gonna get rescinded I gotta think. Looked bad live but you can see her trip on the replay.”
“Getting suspended because you accidentally brushed shoulders with a referee is absolute insanity,” another fan commented.
Fever Get Back in Win Column
After losing their last two games to the Aces and Minnesota Lynx, the Fever bounced back with a 90-86 victory to improve to 20-12 on the season.
Clark and Kelsey Mitchell led the way, combining for 53 points. Clark recorded 26 points, 11 assists and four rebounds, while Mitchell totaled 27 points, five rebounds and two assists.
Aliyah Boston also recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. The win sets the Fever up for what could be a showdown with the Liberty on Tuesday without their star point guard.
