If the Houston Texans are serious about bolstering their group as much as possible around C.J. Stroud, adding a player like Von Miller or even former No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney could be a step in the right direction.
Both players would join a position group led by Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr. and would have to accept backup roles.
However, both players have already shown connections to and/or with Stroud.
FA Pass Rusher Von Miller Gets Attention With Texans QB C.J. Stroud
GettyC.J. Stroud linked up with former Houston Texans star Jadeveon Clowney.
“I’m the character you unlock when you finish the game on expert…,” Miller posted on Instagram on May 12, along with a series of emojis and a 20-slide show with videos and images, including of Stroud and former Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.
Stroud posted a fingers-crossed emoji in the comment section.
Stroud was not the only NFL player present in Miller’s slideshow, or even the most prominent fellow athlete, but his appearance was noteworthy nonetheless.
The picture with Stroud is from May 2 and was taken at the Celebrity Friends For F1 Miami Grand Prix Race in Miami, which was presented by Raisin Canes owner Todd Graves.
Miller’s post drew attention from Texans fans on X, some of whom noted that the eight-time Pro Bowler, three-time First Team All-Pro, and two-time Super Bowl champion is a DeSoto native who played his college ball at Texas A&M.
The Texans boast a strong pass rush led by Hunter and Anderson.
However, Miller–who has earned $198.9 million in his career, per Spotrac–is coming off a one-year, $6.1 million contract in 2025.
The Texans’ pass rushing depth behind Anderson and Hunter consists of Ali Gaye, Dominique Robinson, Dylan Horton, Logan Hall–who will also rotate at defensive tackle–undrafted rookie free agent Sabastian Harsh, and Solomon Byrd.
That is a deep stable of pass rushers backing Stroud and the Texans’ offense, even without Miller.
Von Miller Had Resurgent 2025 Season
GettyVon Miller is still a capable playmaker, and could be a strong fit for the Houston Texans.
Miller spent the 2025 season with the Washington Commanders. He finished the campaign with 9.0 sacks, his most since the 2021 season.
Moreover, Miller did that while logging three starts, but playing in all 17 regular-season games.
The MVP of Super Bowl 50, Miller has also had stints with the Buffalo Bills, the Denver Broncos, who drafted him second overall in 2011, and the Los Angeles Rams. He won his Super Bowls with Denver and LA.
Spotrac projected Miller’s market value at a one-year, $5.8 million pact. The Texans have $18.1 million in space, per Over The Cap.
Former Texans Star Jadeveon Clowney Reacts to Von Miller’s Post
GettyJadeveon Clowney could be a fitting retread for the Houston Texans.
Miller’s post also drew an attention-grabbing reaction, with Clowney, the first overall pick of the 2014 draft, liking the post. It is unclear if the former Texans star was reacting because of Stroud, with whom he never played in Houston.
Still, the idea of adding a pair of pass rushers such as Clowney and Miller is enticing, even if highly unlikely.
Like Miller in Washington, Clowney had a resurgent campaign with the Dallas Cowboys.
He had 8.5 sacks in just 13 games, while starting just six of those contests. That could put the 33-year-old in the right mindset for the Texans. Clowney has also played for the Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns, Seattle Seahawks, and Tennessee Titans.
