Bryson DeChambeau Announces Drastic Decision Days Before Masters

Bryson DeChambeau came close to winning his first Masters, but an underwhelming final round resulted in Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose competing in a playoff for the green jacket. Now, it appears that DeChambeau is taking drastic measures to finally win at Augusta National.

Days before the Masters, DeChambeau revealed that he is building his own golf clubs. It is unclear if DeChambeau will have these custom clubs at the Masters.

“There’s this nature that I have about myself where innovation is a habit of mine, and I really find and take pride in that ability to learn, even through failure, even through making a bad decision or a good decision, what I can get from that,” DeCheambeau told reporters on April 7, 2026.

“(In) South Africa I was trying wedges. So I was going quite a bit down a rabbit hole there and figured a couple cool things out. Hopefully it helps this week. Then I am working on irons, building irons, building a driver. So we’ll see where it goes, we’ll see where it takes me. All I could say now is, if I don’t put them in the bag, it’s my fault now.”

DeChambeau was then asked a follow-up question about the particular clubs that the golfer is building. The LIV Golf star indicated that he is building a whole set of clubs without the help of a brand.

“It’s my own personal clubs I’m building,” DeChambeau added. “… With myself, yeah.”

Throughout his career, DeChambeau has had multiple breakups with equipment providers. Most recently, DeChambeau split with LA Golf, which appears to have been as much about the business deal as it was the clubs.

“Bryson and I actually have some of the same tendencies, and I have nothing but respect for him,” Reed told Golf.com’s Michael Bamberger during a February 24, interview. “But he has this new consultant, a McKinsey-consulting type guy, and this guy says to me that Bryson is gonna walk unless he gets 51 percent.

“Bryson’s got 2% of the company. And I think the guy doesn’t realize that he’s dealing with a redneck. And I say, ‘There’s no path for that.’ They played chicken with me, and now we’re going to graciously part ways.”

Bryson DeChambeau on Rivalry With Rory McIlroy: ‘I Don’t See Any Problem With That’

More details are emerging about the rivalry between DeChambeau and McIlroy after the two battled for the 2025 Masters. DeChambeau does not see the rivalry ending any time soon.

“Yeah, it’s great if we can continue to have a rivalry,” DeChambeau said of McIlroy. “I don’t see any problem with that. If anything, it kind of helps create more buzz around the game of golf.

“Do I respect him as an individual? 100 percent. Do I want to beat him every time I see him? Absolutely. There’s no question about it.”
